AT the opening sale of store lambs through Harrison and Hetherington, stronger types were in demand as the sale peaked at £70 for Texels from IW Barrow, Jackson Ground, Broughton in Furness.

ALONGSIDE its sale of store cattle last week, Craig Wilson offered 455 store lambs at its opening sale where a smaller entry met an extremely buoyant trade throughout. 
The sale averaged £56.58 (-£1.76 on the year), and sold to £66 for Texels from Messrs Adamson, East Raws Farm.

Thainstone
STORE lambs met a strong demand and exceeded sellers’ expectations at Aberdeen and Northern Marts’ sale of 2229 store lambs, breeding and feeding sheep., 
The 786 store lambs sold to £69 for continentals from Dunearn, Nairn, but it was continentals from Speylea, Fochabers, that topped the 19 ewe lambs at £86. 
Breeding sheep (34) sold to £86 for Suffolk gimmers from Hillhead, Glen of Newmill, while feeding sheep (1390) sold to £115 for Suffolks from Wester Arr, Nairn.

MOST averages improved on the week at United Auctions’ sale of 3276 store lambs and feeding sheep, on Monday, where Texels from Masterfield topped the lamb entry at £76.50.

Hexham
IT was the champion pen from Hexham and Northern Marts’ anniversary show of store lambs that topped the trade when the first prize continentals, Beltex crosses from CA and JG Skidmore, sold for £108 apiece. 
They were picked out by K Harryman, Keskdale, and two further pens passed the £100 barrier – from SH Spours and Son, Henlaw, at £105, and James Latimer, Chapel House, at £100.

Stirling (Cal)
ALL classes of short-keep lambs met a similar trade on the week while longer keep types were easier at Caledonian Marts, where 2276 store lambs averaged £54.73 (-£2.24 on the year). 
A feature of the sale was a pair of Suffolk lambs donated by Cameron and James MacInnes, Culbhuirg, on the Isle of Iona, which raised £150 for the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation and Iona Village Hall when bought by John Gilvear, Graystale. 
Otherwise, trade peaked at £80.50 for Texels from Shona Dougall, Ardriona, Iona.

Quoybrae
LAMBS that summered well sold at rates similar to last year, while smaller lambs that were affected by the dry weather proved more difficult to cash at Aberdeen and Northern Marts’ sale of 3533 store and prime sheep, on Monday, which incorporated the Dunbeath, Bettyhill, Forsinard and North-west Sutherland areas.
Averages were back on the year as the sale levelled at £51.54 (-£2.21), with Cheviot ewe lambs from Braemore (Mcgonigill) topping the entry at £90 as 565 ewe lambs averaged £50.38 (-£1.20). 
The 1566 wedder lambs levelled at £46.07 (-£4.07), having sold to £64.50 for Cheviots from Braehillor, Dunbeath, while the 1259 cross lambs averaged £60.32 (-£1.11) and sold to £79.50 for Texels from 5 Upper Dounreay, Thurso. 
Prime lambs (90) hit 178.9p per kg for 45kg Texels from 3 Braal, Halkirk, and £84.50 for 49kg Texels from The Smithy, Haster, while feeding ewes and rams (53) sold to £91 for Texels from Thurdistoft, Castletown.

Longtown
ANDREW Hutchinson, Yorkshire, judged the show of 4438 store lambs at C and D Auction Marts’ sale on Tuesday and found his champion winners in a pen of Suffolk crosses. 
Consigned by Messrs Laing, Tarrasfoot, they later sold for £85.50. The reserve pen, continentals from Messrs Reed and Hill, Lingey Field, topped the trade at £95. 
Outwith the show, lambs sold to £86 for Texels from Felton Demesne.
