LIMOUSINS from Nethermyres headed up Lawrie and Symington’s sale of 40 prime cattle when a 622kg bullock topped the entry at 260p per kg and £1617.20 while a 553kg heifer realised 258p. 
Heifers also reached £1534.38 for a 642kg Limousin from West Bog as the 30 heifers levelled at 230p while 10 bullocks averaged 238p. 
Six cast cows hit tops of 130p and £940 for a Limousin from Newbigging of Craighall. 
Averaging 185.7p, a rise of 6.9p on the week, the entry of 590 prime lambs sold to 206.7p and 204.3p for Beltex from Clochie, as well as £100 per head for Texels from West Drums. 
The 206 cast ewes were also topped by Texels, this time from Meikle Tullo. 

Dumfries
PRIME cattle were short of demand as the five on offer sold to 214p per kg for an Aberdeen-Angus bullock from J Rae, Boghead, at C and D Auction Marts. 
Trade was sharper for a plainer show of cast cows with fleshier sorts achieving a premium. The 20 beef cows averaged 115.5p having peaked at 144p for a Limousin from Isle of Dalton and £1146 for an Angus from Corrie Mains. 
Levelling at 90.5p, the 40 dairy cows sold to 110p for a Friesian from Park and £869 for a Holstein from Woodhead. 
Buyers were active for prime lambs with numbers short of needs as the sale averaged 199.5p for 536, with best sorts selling in excess of 210p. They sold to 227p and £100 for Texels from Boreland. 
Cast ewes (543) saw heavy sorts sell firmer on the week while light ewes with meat met a firm trade but those with no flesh were harder to sell. 
Ewes reached £148.50 for Texels from Castlehill with tups to £141 for the same breed from Midlock.

Huntly
LAMBS met a sharper trade on the week for all classes with well-bred lambs cashing in at extreme rates and regularly surpassing the 200p per kg mark.
The 503 on offer peaked at 216p for Beltex weighing 44kg from Sibmister and Stainland Farms, Thurso, as well as £100 for 52kg Suffolk crosses from Newmill of Rathen, Fraserburgh. 
Heavy ewes remained the easiest to cash while leaner sorts remain sticky as the 1081 reached £137 for Texels also from Newmill of Rathen. 

Thainstone
AVERAGES improved on the week at Aberdeen and Northern Marts’ sale of 24 prime cattle, when 20 heifers levelled at 216.7p (+3.7p on the week) with four bullocks at 211.4p (+8.5p). 
They peaked at 232p for a Limousin heifer weighing 520kg from Stonehill, Keith-hall, with the same home topping the gross trade at £1456.35 for a 665kg Limmy bullock. 
Heifers also hit £1372.50 for a 610kg Limousin from New Mains, Glenkindie, and bullocks also sold to 220p for a Limousin weighing 605kg from Whiteside, Tullynessle. 
Cast cattle averages also improved on the week as 127 beef cows averaged 138.7p (+6.7p), having sold to 184.8p for a Charolais from West Brough, Sanday, as well as £1685 for a Charolais weighing more than a tonne from Tillymorgan, Culsalmond. 
Bulls (seven) averaged 119.6p (+11.7p) and sold to 125.6p for an Aberdeen-Angus from Honeyneuk Farm, Maud, and £1550 for a Charolais from Deskie Farm, Glenlivet. 
Likewise, prime lambs improved on the week to level at 182.8p (+8.6p) for 692, with 515 SQQ lambs at 186.2p (+10p). 
They reached 200p for Beltex weighing 45kg and 43kg from Birkenbower, Lumsden, as well as £98 for 52kg Texels from Shougle, Birnie. 

Stirling (Cal)
HEIFERS headed up Caledonian Marts’ sale of 84 prime cattle when an entry from JH and NT Turnbull, Meadowend, Clackmannan, sold for 255p per kg and another from D Dickinson, Brockwoodlees, Canonbie, realised £1598.40. 
Bullocks sold to 240p from J and N Kerr, Bankhead, Aberdour, as well as £1591.92 for a Charolais from G and J Davie, Harviesmailing, Denny. 
Of the 51 cast cattle, beef cows averaged 127p and sold to 158p for a Limousin from A and I Dick, Kipperoch, Dumbarton, as well as £1260 for an Aberdeen-Angus from R Graham and Son, Airthrey Kerse, Bridge of Allan. 
Levelling at 105p, dairy cows reached 141p from J Craig, Carneil, Carnock, and £940 from Ardgate Farming, Gartocharn. 
On Tuesday, the firm sold 1740 prime lambs to average 180.8p (-4.7p on the week), where heavy and well-fleshed lambs were in demand while leaner types were harder to cash. 
Topping the trade at £150 per head was the champion trio of lambs from Kinross Show from H Young, Mawcarse. The 1464 heavy lambs (39.1kg+) averaged 184.5p with 278 light lambs (25kg to 39kg) at 156p. 
A record entry of 1491 cast sheep saw heavy ewes average £54.98 and sell to £146 for a Texel from G Reid, Duncarnie, Mains of Duncrub, while export ewes averaged £35.20.

Stirling (UA)
PRIME lambs cashed in to average 190.5p per kg at United Auctions’ recent sale of 2841 prime lambs. 
They sold to a top of 228p for Beltex lambs from Coilavoulin as well as £111 for Texels from Flanders. 
The entry of 1960 cast ewes peaked at £140 for Texels from Cassindilly, while tups sold to £116 for Texels from Chesthill. 

Longtown
LAMBS were forward in larger numbers and were of a better quality at C and D Auction Marts’ sale of 3503, last week, where buyers were keen for supplies which resulted in a sharper trade on the week as the sale averaged 197.2p per kg with SQQ lambs at 198.5p. 
Best export lambs were very dear and peaked at 247p for Texels form TR and EA Milburn, Wallend, Greenhead, as well as £114 for Texels from J Marshall, Hermitage, Kirkpatrick Fleming. 
Heavy lambs were also a strong trade with many selling over £100 and to a top of 222p from G and W Halliday, Crawthat, Waterbeck, while light lambs were easily sold and peaked at £60 for 32kg Texels from J Weir, High Ladore, Keswick. 
A huge entry of 9025 cast sheep saw 1160 sell for more than £100 with meatier heavy and hill ewes meeting the best of the trade. 
The sale reached £162 for Texels from J and J Dunlop, Searigg, Dumfries, while hill ewes hit £80 for Cheviots from KJ and Wilson, Wood Farm, Carlisle, and rams sold to £154 for Suffolks from JP Lee, Morley Hill, Hexham. 
Cast cattle (20) met a brisk trade to top at 163p and £872 for a Whitebred Shorthorn bull from G Jackson, Blackburn, Newcastleton, with cows to 150p for a British Blue from A Roskell and Partners, Laverhay, Moffat. 

Ayr
ALL types of prime lambs sold to a lesser trade on the week with more numbers hitting the market across the country as 2430 cashed in to average 180p per kg (-5.3p) at Craig Wilson's sale, on Monday. 
They sold to £100 per head twice – for a Texel from A Currie, Fisherton, and again for a Beltex cross from A Borthwick, Auchenraith – as well as 204.6p for a Texel from AC an B Miller, Baidlandhill (Dalry). 
The 1205 cast sheep saw 599 heavy ewes average £76.40 and sell to £138.50 for a pair of pure Texels from J Mitchell, Hall of Caldwell, while 580 light ewes levelled at £39.82 having peaked at £84.50 for Blackfaces from B McGubbin, Mossend (Ayr). 
Averaging £73.50, the 26 tups hit £125 for two Texels from Messrs Brown, Caprickhill. 
On Tuesday, prime cattle continued to sell well as 11 heifers levelled at 226.7p or £1210.82 and sold to 236.5p for a Limousin from High Glentriploch and £1281.50 for another from Boreland. 
A large entry of cast cattle saw cows sell to £1450 for a Limousin from Holehouse (Ochiltree) as 46 beef-bred cows levelled at 120.3p while 97 dairy sorts averaged 100.1p. 

St Boswells
A HEIFER from Bee Edge led Harrison and Hetherington’s sale of 53 clean cattle, on Monday, when she sold for 246p per kg as the 34 heifers levelled at 217p, a drop of 6p on the week. 
Bullocks (17) sold more favourably at 228p (+10p), having peaked at 238p from Penston and Pathhead, with an entry from Upper Nisbet topping the gross trade at £1495. 
Cast cows sold to an improved trade as 57 averaged 137p (+3p), having peaked at 167p from Birkenside and £1388 from Upper Huntlywood. 
Trade was sharper for all types of prime lambs as 1881 reached 228p for Texels from Crumhaughhill and £117 for the same from Middle Blainslie. They averaged 199p (+12p). 
The 740 cast ewes averaged £65 with heavies at £89 and lights at £53. Heavies hit £113 for Texels from Craighouse with lights to £87 for North Country Cheviots from North Synton. 

Lanark
IT was a Limousin heifer from D Dickinson, Brockwoodlees, Canonbie, that topped Lawrie and Symington’s sale of 34 prime cattle at 252p per kg and £1469, on Monday. 
Bullocks sold to 230p and £1265 from Carskerdo, while young bulls hit 214p from Newsteadings and £1624 from Mosside. 
The entry of 94 cast cattle saw a Limousin cow from Messrs Graham, Greenshields, Biggar, lead at £1195 and 174p, while dairy sorts hit £805 and 114p from Harelaw. 
A larger show of 2868 prime lambs met a firmer trade on the week, particularly for heavy lambs, as the sale averaged 191p (SQQ 190p). 
They reached 234p and £110 for Texels from R and M Struthers, Collielaw, with James A Taylor, Skirling Crags, also selling Texels for £110. 
The largest cast ewe entry in years saw 1966 sell at record high rates and to a top of £150 for Texels from Collielaw with Blackfaces from Messrs Laird, Carbello, hitting £78. 

Castle Douglas
LAMBS weighing 42kg to 44kg were noticeably sharper on the week as were the best bred sorts at Wallets Marts’ sale of 1082 on Tuesday. 
Averaging 188.07p, they sold to 246.3p and £101 for Beltex from Messrs Adam, Torhouskie, with heavy lambs to £100 for Texels from Hamish MacTaggart, Dunjop. 
Cast sheep (613) reached £116 for Texels from Lagganpark. 

Dingwall
IT was heifers that led Dingwall and Highland Marts’ sale of 30 prime cattle, on Tuesday, when a 530kg Limousin cross from Teanroit, Beauly, reached 240p per kg and a 615kg Charolais cross from Mountrich, Dingwall, sold for £1420.65.
The 29 heifers levelled at 223.2p. 
The prime lamb average rose 3.4p on the week to level at 175p for 529 with 429 SQQs at 175.7p (+2.6p). They reached 211.9p and £89 for a pair of 42kg Beltex crosses from Kinnahaird Farm, Contin. 
Ewes and feeding sheep (115) sold to £93 for a Texel cross ewe from Greenlands, Arabella.

Newton Stewart
PRIME lambs averaged 179.2p per kg for 1712 at Craig Wilson''s sale on Wednesday, a drop of 10p on the week. 
They sold to £95 for Beltex from Messrs Service, Balgreggan, Sandhead, which had won the championship at Colmonell Show. 
Beltex from the Young Family, Tormitchell, headed up the price per kg at 213.6p as heavy lambs hit £95 for Texels from Margot Burney. 
Ewes (785) sold to £107.50 for Texel crosses from Messrs McHarrie, Duchra, as 459 heavy ewes averaged £73.50 with 459 lights at £32.26.
