PRIME cattle hit a top of 264p per kg twice at Lawrie and Symington's sale of 32 prime cattle, last week, for 533kg and 530kg Limousin heifers from Nethermyres.

While heifers averaged 241p and also reached £1546.22 for a 626kg Limousin from West Bog, the 10 bullocks topped the gross trade at £1581.60 for a 659kg Limousin from Nethermyres.

Averaging 243p, bullocks also peaked at 255p for a 592kg Limousin from Gask.

In the sheep, 507 prime lambs sold to 197.9p for Texels from North Mains of Dun, and £96 for the same to average 177.2p (-5p), while the 73 ewes and rams peaked at £94 for Suffolks from North Mains of Baldovan.

Huntly

LAMBS were a little sharper on the week at United Auctions' sale of 571 new season lambs at Huntly, where well-bred types and heavier sorts proved to be the easiest commodity to cash.

Trade reached 250p per kg and £130 for a pair of 52kg Suffolk crosses from Gaich, Grantown, the same duo which stood champion at Grantown Show.

The 664 ewes were easier on the week for all classes and peaked at £130 for Texels from Croftdhu.

Dumfries

PRIME cattle met a keen trade at C and D Auction Marts' sale, where Limousin bullocks from AC Martin, Horseholm, led at 234p per kg.

An entry of 24 beef-bred cows averaged 135.2p and sold to 166p for a Simmental from Dalmakethar and £1137.60 for a Limousin from the same home. Dairy cows (27) cashed in at 96.3p and sold to 123p and £1045 for a Holstein from Conheath.

Among the 567 prime lambs, best sorts were in plenty of demand, with lean and smaller lambs having met a limited trade. Trade peaked at £95 and 192p for heavies from Glenkiln, to average 183.4p.

A plainer show of 422 cast ewes sold easier on the week as they peaked at £125 for Texels from Over Abington.
