WITH more distant buyers present and a quality show on offer, store lambs met a dearer trade on the week at C and D Auction Marts’ sale of 3281 store lambs and feeding ewes. 
Lambs sold to £86 for Beltex from Greenwell Meadows, while feeding ewes peaked at £80 for Texels from Felton Demesne with hill ewes to £48 for Cheviots from Twislehop.

Dingwall
ALONGSIDE a sale of breeding sheep, Dingwall and Highland Marts sold 277 store lambs as well as 447 lambs from Lewis Livestock Producers, where averages were back in both sections. 
The main entry levelled at £40.68, a drop of £3.95 on the year, and sold to £70 for a pen of Texel crosses from Springburn, Elgin. 
The LLP entry also reached £70, this time for a pen of Suffolk crosses from 1 Fivepenny, Ness, and averaged £34.08, a drop of £3.87.

THERE was a good show of long-keep store lambs which sold to extreme rates at Harrison and Hetherington’s St Boswells centre, last week, where Suffolk crosses from Ruletownhead topped at £67.50.

A LARGER show of store lambs met a buoyant trade throughout, although all classes were slightly cheaper compared to the previous week's extreme rates, through Craig Wilson's centre which saw 1278 average £59.28 down £1.27 on the week. 
They hit a top of £75 for a pen of Oxford Down crosses from Messrs Bell, Knowe House.

Fort William
A FIRM enquiry for all classes was seen at the first store sheep sale of the season at Dingwall and Highland Marts’ sale of 1307 head. 
The 1127 store lambs reached £60.50 for Mules from Ardtonish Farms, Morven, while 160 ewes hit £50 for a Cheviot from Benhaint, Kilchoan, which also led the 20 feeding sheep at £65 for a Cheviot ram.

TOP draw store lambs sold well while smaller sorts met a more hesitant trade at Aberdeen and Northern Marts’ sale of 5156 store lambs, breeding and feeding sheep, which included lambs from Lewis and Shetland
The mainland entry of 1173 store lambs peaked at £73 for Texels from Pineview, Fowlershill, with 33 ewe lambs to £80 for Texels from Greenfield, Rothes. 
The 2871-strong offering of lambs from the islands reached £76.50 for Suffolks from Seabreeze, Scalloway, Sheltand, while lambs from the Isle of Lewis sold to £60 for Cheviots from 16 Swordale, Point. 
Feeding ewes and rams (964) saw cull ewes meet an animated trade with many in the £110 to £135 bracket as the entry hit £141 for Texels from 31 Larel, Halkirk.

The 38 feeding ewes averaged £38.

AT United Auctions’ first sale of the season at Lochboisdale, a good offering of quality-bred lambs sold to a strong force of mainland buyers and most sellers received between £5 and £8 more on the year as the sale averaged £49.82.
Of the 1758 store lambs and sheep on offer, lambs reached £76.50 for Suffolk crosses from 88 Bualadubh while ewes sold to £60 for crosses from 391 Carrynamonie.

SELLING alongside Caledonian Marts’ sale of store cattle, on Monday, was an entry of 1447 store lambs and feeding ewes where all classes sold similar to last week. 
Leading the lamb offering at £78 was a Texel from D and B Gibson, Three Views.

STRONG lambs sold to sellers’ advantage with longer keep lambs following recent trends at Dingwall and Highland Marts’ sale of 2517, on Monday, which cashed in to average £33.75, a drop of £5.36 on the year. 
They sold to £76 for Texel crosses from N MacDonald, 44 Borneskitaig, Kilmuir, while the 196 feeding sheep hit a top of £68 for a Cheviot wedder from 2B Penifiler, Portree.

The sale hit £83 per head twice – firstly for a pen of 12 Beltex from Messrs Spruce, The Barns, Brampton, and again for a pen of eight Texels from Messrs Wilson, Scales Farm, Cockermouth.

Forfar
AT Lawrie and Symington, on Tuesday, a show of pens of 20 Suffolk store lambs was judged by Ken Robertson, Heatherstacks, who picked out a pen from W and WI Bruges, Laighwood, as his champion. 
This pen went on to realise £57 per head while the reserve from J and A Lindsay, Runavey, made £54. 
Topping the sale at £67, however, were Texels from Whitehills.
