LAWRIE and Symington sold 25 prime cattle at its Forfar centre, where eight bullocks averaged 241p per kg and 17 heifers leveleld at 240p.

Heifers topped at 258p and £1769.88 for a 686kg British Blue from Gask, while bullocks sold to 250p for a 616kg Limousin from Nethermyres and £1674.64 for a 692kg Limousin from the same home.

Cast cows (4) peaked at £910 and 124p for a Hereford.

In the sheep, 442 prime lambs averaged 170.1p and peaked at 213.3p for Beltex from Scobshaugh, and £100 for a Beltex from Shandford.

The 81 cast ewes and rams sold to £82 from Heath Cott.

Huntly

LIKE most centres this week, lambs took a big drop in price this week at United Auctions sale of 836 new season lambs at Huntly, where heavies still proved easiest to cash, with a large entry of lean types affecting the overall average.

Trade reached 189p for a 40kg Texels from Mains of Skeith, Deskford, and £101 for a 59kg Texel from 91 Main Street, Newmill.

Ewes (1105) saw heavy types reach a brisk trade as they peaked at £129 for Suffolks from Blackford, while rams sold to £124 for Texels from Rivestone.

Thainstone

AVERAGES rose on the week at Aberdeen and Northern Marts' sale of 31 prime cattle at Thainstone as 15 bullocks averaged 214.4p (+8.2p) and 13 heifers levelled at 218.2p (+5.6p).

Heifers topped at 235p for a 545kg Limousin from Stoneyhill, Keith-hall and £1504.80 for a 720kg Aberdeen-Angus from Blelack, Dinnet.

Bullocks reached 225p for a 570kg Limousin from Hillside, Fetternear, and £1478.25 for a 675kg Limousin from Whiteside, Tullynessle.

The firm also sold 133 cast cows and bulls, where 122 beef types averaged 142.7p (+0.2p) and ten bulls cashed in at 123.4p (-1.5p).

A 740kg South Devon from North Bigging, Dounby, led at 18.45p, while a 970kg Charolais from Moss-side of Gight, Fyvie, made £1565.

Bulls (10) sold to 139.2p for a 995kg Limousin from Smoogarth, Firth, and £1670 for a 1300kg Charolais from Auchorrie, Midmar.

Cockermouth

PRIME cattle were in demand at Mitchells Livestock Company's sale of 80 head last week, where a good quality on show topped at 221.50p per kg for a Limousin bull from G and T Tyson, East House, while a Charolais bull from P and PI Walker and Son, Beechcroft, made £1576.58.

Cast cows (53) sold to extreme prices as they reached £1324.05 for a Shorthorn from R and E Richardson, Burnt House Farm.

In the sheep, the 956 lambs sold sharper as SQQs averaged 175.50p and peaked at 254p and £127 for a Suffolk from GW Hird, Westray Farm.

The 529 cast ewes and rams peaked at £108 for a Suffolk ewe from High Flatts.
