LAWRIE and Symington had forward 27 prime cattle at its Forfar mart, where 10 bullocks averaged 246p per kg and 17 heifers levelled at 246p.

Bullocks topped at 263p for a 600kg British Blue cross from Gask, and £1666.64 for a Limousin weighing 664kg from the same home.

Among the heifers, trade peaked at 262p for a 563kg Limousin from Nethermyres and £1615.38 for a 654kg Limousin from Gask.

Of the 10 cast cows forward, a top price of £1235 was paid for a Limousin from Cairnleith.

Averaging 162.6p (+4p), the 641 prime lambs hit a top of 190.9p and £92 for Texels from Mains of Dalrulzion, while 250 ewes and rams peaked at £113 for a Beltex Witton.

Huntly

NEW season lambs met a buoyant trade at United Auctions' sale of 663 head at Huntly, where export types realised the largest rise in value.

A top price of 178p per kg was paid for a 41kg Blue Texel from North Retannach, Rothiemay, and £82 for 50kg Beltex from Braeside, Alford.

Cast ewes (652) were also sharper, particularly leaner sorts as they sold to £107 for Suffolk crosses from South Blachrie, while rams hit £107 for a continental from North Dorlaithers, Turriff.

Cockermouth

LIMOUSIN bulls from A and L Gott, Prospect House Farm and P and PI Walker and Son, Beechcroft, topped Mitchell Auction Company's sale of 53 prime cattle when they sold for 213.5p per kg.

Beechcroft also topped the gross trade at £1675.98.

A British Blue from Low Kinmont topped the 34 cull cows at 149.5p and £1122.75, while 19 bulls realised 103.5p and £909.77 for a Limousin from Corn How.

Among the 1379 prime lambs, a lift on the week of 6.5p saw SQQs average 174p and medium types cash in at 175.6p. Top price was 250p and £115 for a pen of Texels from WS Jackson, Nook Farm.

The 859 cast ewes and rams saw ewes peak at £104 for a Texel from Grange Farm and rams to £90 for the same from Westerham.
