A MIXED show of all breeds sold at satisfactory rates at Dingwall and Highland Marts' sale of 511 weaned calves, store and breeding cattle, last Wednesday.

Some 274 bullocks peaked at 262.7p per kg for a 255kg Limousin cross from 182 Strathtongue, Tongue and £1010 for a 560kg Aberdeen-Angus cross from Muirend Croft, Auldearn. Meanwhile, 198 heifers topped the gross trade at £1220 for a 585kg Aberdeen-Angus cross from Burnside, Bonar Bridge, as well as 252.4p for a 210kg Limousin cross from Strathtongue.

An entry of 17 Highland Cattle saw 10 Highland cross bullocks reach 205.6p for a pair weighing 248kg from Glencassley Estate, Rosehall, and £540 for another pen weighing 289kg from the same home. Glencassley Estate also topped the seven heifers at 203.9p for one weighing 255kg and £620 for one weighing 320kg.

Three young bulls averaged 214.1p and reached 235.3p for a pair of 272kg Aberdeen-Angus crosses and £800 for a Shorthorn cross from Alvie Estate, Kincraig.

Among the breeding cattle, a Bazadaise cross cow from Quarryhead, Huntly, topped the 10 in-calf cows at £780, while a Belted Galloway with bull calf at foot from 5 Maraig, Isle of Harris, made £1450 and an Aberdeen-Angus with a heifer calf from Lower Toftingall, Watten, sold for £1100.

Five breeding bulls sold to £1380 for a Limousin from Coldholme, Fortrose, while 113 prime and feeding cattle sold to 137.5p for a 720kg Limousin cross from 1 Ahmore, Lochmaddy and £1050 gross for a 765kg Limousin cross from Clury Farm, Dulnain Bridge.

BULLOCKS headed up United Auctions' sale of 722 store cattle at Stirling, when a Limousin weighing 451kg from Carslae sold for 237.30p per kg and a 573kg Simmental cross from Putechan made £1220.

While the 380 bullocks averaged 202.94p, the 284 heifers cashed in at 197.73p and sold to 243p for a 421kg Limousin cross from Upper Obney and £1140 for a 489kg Simmental cross from Harehead.

Black and white bullocks (58) levelled at 147.96p and peaked at 186.30p for a 483kg Holstein Friesian cross from Westerhill and £975 for a similar bullock weighing 647kg from Dykehead.

Averaging 105.77p, the 189 beef cast cows sold to 179.90p for a Limousin cross from Easter Frew and £1350 for the same from Windsole, while eight dairy cows cashed in at 88.18p and sold to 105.50p for a Holstein Friesian cross from Carneil and £735 for a British Friesian cross from East Bangour.

The four forward cattle averaged 187.25p and reached 194.80p for a Limousin cross from Patrickston and £1130 for the same from Patrickston.
