Top price was £1215 for a Simmental bullock from Stoopshill or 234p for Limousin bullocks from Arnsow. Heifers peaked at £1200 for a Limousin from Rankinston or 210.5p for the same.

AT Thainstone, Aberdeen and Northern Marts sold 1633 store cattle, where 909 bullocks cashed in at 215.8p, down 12.6p on the year, while the 718 heifers levelled at 206.8p, down 13.1p.

Top price amongst the bullocks was 285.7p per kg for a pair of 280kg British Blue crosses from Uppermill Farms, Springburn, and £1450 for six Aberdeen-Angus crosses from Clunycrichton, Banchory.

Heifers peaked at 262.4p per kg for three 282kg British Blue crosses from Uppermill Farms and £1680 for a 620kg British Blue cross from Newmill, Rathen.

The 29th anniversary show and sale of store cattle, judged by Robbie Anderson, Sootywells, Laurencekirk, saw the overall champion, a 700kg, 21-month-old Charolais cross heifer from W and D Moir Livestock, Newmill, Rathen, sell for £1480 to GA Reid, Mill of Haulkerton, Laurencekirk.

Reserve and home-bred champion was a 440kg, 12-month-old Limousin cross bullock from W Patterson and Son, Upper Forgie, Keith which made £1160 to D Lumgair and Son, Gask, Letham.

Champion pen of four came from W and D Moir, Newmill, Rathen. Their 620kg British Blue cross heifers sold to average £1510.

The firm’s sale of 658 store lambs sold to £77.50 for Suffolk crosses from North Chapelhouses, Oldmeldrum.

A SMALL entry of 135 store cattle were forward for Hexham and Northern Marts’ first sale of 2019 where all classes sold dearer than at the end of 2018.

The sale was topped at £1335 for a 20-month-old home-bred Limousin cross bullock from Willie Patterson, Halton Red House. Heifers sold to £1230 for a Limousin from Messrs Burn, Grange Houses.

All classes of store hoggs were dearer with the 1657 catalogued selling to £118 for Texel tup hoggs from WH Davison and Son, Lough Green. Mule hoggs were topped at £73 from W and PF Walton, Penpeugh, Bardon Mill.

SOME 249 cattle and 833 sheep were forward for Darlington Farmers Auction Mart weekly sale of store and breeding stock on Monday, where the first lot in the ring – a British Blue cow with a two-month-old Limousin heifer calf from J and VM Bussey of Streatlam Close, Stainton – topped the trade at £1450.

Young bulls were led by a 13-month-old pure Limousin from CR Raine and Son, Stanhope Gate, Middleton-in-Teesdale, which sold for £1060.

Lead priced steer was a 20-month-old Angus from WB Rutter and Sons, Greengill, Scargill, that made £1090, with a black Limousin from the same home topping the heifers at £1030.

Store hoggs met a breath-taking trade with a mixed show of sheep averaged a £72.15. Top price was £90.50 paid for a pen of 27 strong Texels from DR Smith of East Roughlea Farm, Ferryhill.
