Bullocks cashed in at 214.21p and heifers at 205.91p at United Auctions' sale of 688 store cattle and 134 cast cows at Stirling, last week.

Bullocks (367) peaked at 246.50p per kg for a 284kg Simmental cross from Gartincaber, and £1340 for a 640kg Aberdeen-Angus cross from Tanhill, while the 261 heifers sold to 237p for a 354kg Charolais cross from Auchenbothie, and £1300 for a 647kg Aberdeen-Angus cross from Crookedstonemuir.

Dairy bullocks (60) averaged 164.87p, having sold to 185.30p for a 464kg Montbeliarde cross from Kirkmabreck, and £860 for another from the sema home.

Limousins topped the entry of 119 beef cows which averaged 116.33p. They sold to 173.10p per kg for an entry from Dalmarnock, with another from Lochran making £1210.

Meikle Camoquhill topped the 15 dairy cows which averaged 103.75p with Montbeliarde crosses at 122.30p.

The firm also sold 1188 store and breeding sheep, which saw hoggs sell to £81 for Blackfaces from East Kinleith.

Dingwall

AT Dingwall and Highland Marts' store sale, bullocks averaged 212.2p per kg with heifers balancing at 212.9p, at Dingwall.

Leading the 400 bullocks at 263.8p per kg was a 235kg British Blue cross from Shewglie Farmers, Glenurquhart, while a 629kg pen of Aberdeen Angus crosses from South Balkeith, Tain, sold for £1295.

The 237 heifers were topped at 243.5p by 310kg Limousin crosses from Wester Tomloan, Ardclach, and £1185 for a 580kg Charolais cross from The Cloy, Fortrose.

Young bulls sold to 222.8p for 368kg Limousin crosses from Strone Farm, Banavie, and £835 for 418kg Simmental crosses from Torran Farm, Delny.

And, the entry of 49 in-calf cows peaked at £1800 for a Limousin cross from the dispersal of 185 Migdale, Bonar Bridge.

Carlisle

TOP price at Harrison and Hetherington's sale of 561 store cattle at Carlisle, which met a sharper trade on the week, was £1390 paid for a Limousin cross steer from Messrs Robinson, Pelutho Park, Wigton.

Heifers peaked at £1270 for another of the same breed from Messrs Moffat, Stone House, Gretna.

The monthly sale of breeding cattle two day's later attracted a larger entry and a top price of £2700 paid for a Limousin cross heifer with calf from Messrs Bell, Haas Grove, while the selection of bulls sold to 3000gns twice – for a Limousin from Messrs Norman, Little Orton, and a British Blue from Messrs Wainwright, Todhall.

Aberdeen Angus bullocks from Messrs Phaup, Hoprigshiels, topped Harrison and Hetherington's fortnightly store sale selling for £1275 per head, while Charolais heifers from Messrs Hepburn, Northhouse, let the price per kg section at 230.5p.

Overall, bullocks averaged 197.16p per kg, with heifers at 200.98p per kg.

Store hoggs sold to average £67.13.

Hexham

A SMALLER entry of 216 mainly beef bred store cattle were marginally dearer on the week at Hexham and Northern Marts' weekly sale where the first animal through the ring topped the sale at £1340.

This was an 18-month-old Charolais cross from John Davison, Lough Green, whose pen of four averaged £1157.

The entry of 2183 hoggs was topped at £113 for Beltex hoggs from S and M Pickworth, Dotland Park, Hexham. Cast sheep were also sharper on the week selling to £114 for Texel cross ewes from S and M Pickworth, Dotland Park, while rams sold to £112 for Texels from RM Johnston, High Fotherley.

Thainstone

STORE cattle averages slipped on the week at Aberdeen and Northern Marts sale of 818 head where bullocks cashed in at 219.9p (-1.5p) and 299 heifers levelled at 208.1p (-2.7p).

Top price per kg amongst the bullocks was 273.9p paid for 398kg Limousin crosses from Milton of Noth, Rhynie, or £1410 per head for 690kg Aberdeen Angus crosses from Leitcheston, Enzie.

Charolais crosses led the heifers at 257.8p per kg for 446kg entries from Darley, Fyvie and £1390 for 686kg heifer from Little Tulloch, Durris. A 692kg Limousin cross from Backhills, Corse also made £1390.

Orkney and Shetland bullocks were topped at 233p per kg paid for 500kg Charolais from Braebuster, Deerness, and £1215 for 590kg Salers from Lenahowe, Sandwick, while heifers peaked at 244p for a 410kg British Blue and £1275 for 616kg Charolais from Springvalley, Stronsay.

The firm also sold 193 beef cows to average 117.4p, (+1.2p, which peaked at 154.1p for a 490kg Simmental from Bardnaclavan, Bridge of Westfield, and £1510 for a 1165kg Charolais from Mains of Tillymorgan, Culsalmond. The seven dairy cows averaged 93.6p, (+3.1p), and sold to 110.2p for a 540kg Friesian from Linday, Sandwick, and £755 for a 750kg Friesian from Whitefield, Reiss.

Store lambs met the dearest trade of the season, with the 750 selling to £82.50 for Texels from Sunnyside, Dudwick, while 535 island lambs sold to £91 for Beltex crosses from Strathore, Shapinsay.

Top price at Wallets Marts' sale of 257 store cattle, 23 OTM cattle and 547 store hoggs, was £1170 paid for a pen of Simmental bullocks from T McKinnel, Drumneil.

Charolais led the remainder of top prices with bullocks from Messrs Gilroy, East Kirkcarsewell making 229.6p per kg. Heifers sold to £1145 and 204.5p for Charolais from G Taylor, Disdows.

A smaller show of cast cows sold dearer for a plainer show, with a top price of 134p per kg paid a Hereford from Auchtralure and £993.24 for an Angus cross from Messrs Taylor, Moss-side. Overall averages levelled at 99.1p per kg.

The second store hogg sale of the year peaked at £87 for Texels from Messrs Carlyle, Kelloside, Kirkconnel.
