Top price was £1280 paid for an Aberdeen-Angus steer from Rosehill Farms achieving £1280, while heifers sold to £1270 for a Limousin cross from Messrs Dickinson, Low House, Wigton.

A larger entry of 278 weaners included 89 bulls which peaked at £1250 for a 13-month-old Limousin bull from Messrs Johnstone and Sons, Low Flow.

Dairy bullocks (84) averaged 148.63p after selling to 192.6p for a 571kg Montbeliarde cross from Killellan, and £1100 for a 571kg Montbeliarde cross from Killellan.

Leading the 440 heifers which averaged 203.84p was a 299kg Charolais cross from Knollhead that made 234.10p while a 678kg Aberdeen-Angus cross from Millhills made £1280.

Young bulls (44) averaged 206.89p, selling to 219.90p and £1000 for a Limousin from Balrobert.

Beef cows (159) averaged 120.81p and reached 175.10p per kg for a Limousin cross from Chartershall, and to £1410 for a Limousin cross from West Meikle Pinkerton.

The seven dairy cows averaged 88p having sold to 104.90p for a Holstein Friesian from Norrieston.

Heifers (335) averaged 215.7p, up 2.5p, from a top price of 263.2p per kg for 418kg Charolais crosses from Braebuster, Deerness, and £1280 for a 590kg Limousin cross from Terpersie, Tullynessle.

The 25 bulls forward peaked at 233.3p for a 330kg Aberdeen Angus from Worldsend, Maud, and £1080 for 562kg entries of the same breed from Mid Mains of Balfour, Fettercairn.

Wallets Marts sold 105 store cattle, 25 OTM cattle and 1353 store and breeding sheep at their sale where prices peaked at £1335 for a pen of Limousin bullocks from T Robb, Trolane, Dalry.

Top price per kg amongst the bullocks was 223.4p paid to H Templeton, Old Land, for Limousin crosses.

Heifers were topped at £1290 for Limousin crosses from Trolane and 227p per kg for more of the same from Trolane. Overall sale averages were 201p per kg for bullocks and 193.4p per kg for heifers.

OTM cattle were also dearer selling to 138p for a Limousin cow from H and N Armstrong, Farhills and to £922.88 for a Limousin cross from Upper Hardland, to average 108.4p per kg.

Also forward were 1383 store and breeding sheep. Scotch Mule gimmers led the trade at £96 for Messrs Henderson, Stewarton, while Blackface ewes sold to £70 from Lowes Farming, Corsock.

The 1211 store hoggs met a flying trade, peaking at £86 for Texels from Messrs Shaw, Killochy, Balmaclellan.
