All classes of cattle were in short supply at C and D Auction Marts' sale where a Limousin heifer from J Jardine, Yett, led the trade at 226p per kg.

The 1160 sheep saw 687 prime hoggs sell to £125 for Texels from Midlock, while cast entries (473) sold to £94.50 for a Texel ewe from Laightmuirside.


AT Forfar, Lawrie and Symington sold 38 prime cattle and 433 sheep.

Eight bullocks sold to 230p per kg for a 614kg Limousin from Nethermyres and to £1414.21 for a 623kg Limousin from the same home to average 220p.

Heifers (30) peaked at 260p and £1453.40 for a 559kg Limousin from West Bog to average 216p.

Hoggs (363) sold to 241.9p and £104 for Beltex from Balbrydie, while a Texel from Easter Balgillo, topped the 70 cast sheep at £98.


UNITED Auctions' sale of prime sheep saw old season lambs (1786) sell to 207p per kg for 42kg Beltex from Cobbleheugh, Dinnet, and £90 from the same home.

Ewes (1108) reached £100 for a Suffolk from Carsairtly.

Stirling (UA)

SOME 5499 prime sheep sold through United Auctions’ when 4247 prime hoggs averaged 184.47p per kg with top prices of 260p and £115 paid for Beltex from Coilavoulin

The 1252 ewes and rams sold to £128 for a Beltex ewe from Isle Cottage, and £100 for a Texel ram from West Lethans.

Stirling (Cal)

CALEDONIAN Marts sold 111 bullocks, heifers and young bulls and 76 OTM cattle, at it's weekly saw which was sharper on the week.

Heifers were topped at 248p twice for Limousins from W Dandie and Sons, Learielaw, Broxburn, and £1460 for a Charolais from JR Hunter, Luckenburn, Slamannan.

Bullocks sold to 242p and £1562 for a Limousin from Learielaw, while young bulls sold to 212p and £1488 from WM Dick and Sons, Mains of Throsk.

On Tuesday, the firm sold 2275 prime sheep where hogg trade averaged 175p.

Top prices of 253p and £107 were paid for 42kg Beltex from P McIntosh, Strageath, Muthill.


SOME 35 prime cattle were sold through Aberdeen and Northern Marts, where bullocks averaged 194.1p per kg and heifers levelled at 200.5p.

Bullocks sold to 210p for 550kg and 570kg Limousins from Greenstyle, Kildrummy, and £1276.50 for a 690kg Limousin from Whiteside, Tullynessle.

Leading the heifer trade at 217p was a 630kg Charolais from Montlettie, Methlick, or £1408.25 paid for a 655kg Limousin from Middleton of Potterton.

Young bulls (five) averaged 157.3p having sold to 189p and £1398.60 for a 740kg Limousin from Tarmair, Boyndlie.

Old season lambs (1660) averaged 180.4p reaching 234.2p for 38kg Beltex from Honeyneuk, Maud, and £100 for 60kg continentals from Berefold, Ellon. The SQQ was 192.5p for 775.

Cast sheep (726) sold to £100 for Suffolks from Davishill, Udny.


SOME 4665 prime hoggs and 4738 cast ewes and rams, were sold through C and D Auction Marts, where an SQQ of 201.5p was achieved and an overall hogg average of 189p.

Top price per kg was 308p for Beltex hoggs from R and S Nixon and Co, Oakwood, Selkirk, and £119 for Beltex from DS and RC Taylor, Easter Ochtermuthill, Crieff.

Cast sheep sold to £158 for Texel ewes from Viewley, while rams sold to £120 for Texels from C Ryrie, East Kirk, Caithness.


ON Monday, Orkney Livestock sold 25 cattle, 138 prime hoggs and 146 cast sheep.

Limousins from Laga Farms topped the cattle at 212p per kg twice and £1272 and £1155.40.

Prime hoggs sold to 180.9p for seven Texels from Glen, St Ola. Top per head was £91 for a Suffolk, again from Glen.


SOME 2295 sheep were forward at Craig Wilson’s sale at Ayr on Monday, where 1961 hoggs sold to £100 for a Beltex from M Stevenson, Balcaimie, and 212.5p for Texels from J Gatherer, Hill of Ochiltree.

The whole sale averaged 175.5p with an SQQ of 186.5p.


ON Monday, Lawrie and sold 93 prime cattle, to a top of 250p per kg for a Limousin heifer from Messrs Dickinson, Brockwoodlees, Canonbie, and to 224p for a bullock from Messrs Struthers, Collielaw, Carluke.

Prime hoggs were topped at £110 for Beltex from NC Smith, Logan, Lesmahagow, and 261p per kg for more of the same from J and J Cochrane, Richardton, Darvel. The overall average was 181p per kg, with an SQQ of 188p.


Some 479 prime, store and feeding sheep, were sold through Aberdeen and Northern Marts where old season lambs (138) sold to 176.3p for a 40kg Beltex from Thirdpart, Watten and £81.50 for 48.5kg Texels from Brae Edge, Castletown.

St Boswells

Bullocks averaged 203.91p and heifers cashed in 213.85p at Harrison and Hetheringtons's weekly prime sale which saw 58 clean cattle, 35 cast cows, 1082 hoggs and 180 ewes forward.

Cattle from Bee Edge led the trade at £1474.90 and 245p while the cast cow entry was topped at 165p and £1369.50 from Inland Pastures to average 119.83p

Hoggs averaged 182.7p per kg having sold to £107 for a Texel from Floors Farming and 244p for a Charollais from Falsidehill who also led the ewe trade at £113 again with a Charollais. Heavy ewes averaged £83 and lights at £55.


A SMALLER show of 307 cast cows, bulls and prime cattle was forward for Harrison and Hetherington's sale along with 2172 cast and prime sheep.

The 106 beef cows, averaged 138.1p per kg from a top of 159.5p or £1587 paid for Limousins from Messrs Dick, Mains of Throsk.

Prime bulls (86) were topped by a British Blue from Messrs Twentyman, Osborne, Wigton at £1863.63.

Texel crosses from W Gate and Son, Home Farm, Gilgarren, topped the 2024 prime hoggs at £120, with a Beltex from Messrs McCune, Farewell Grange, selling for 305p.

Castle Douglas

ON Tuesday, Wallets Marts' sold 1002 prime and cast sheep, when 634 prime hoggs averaged 172.32p per kg with an SQQ of 176.96p.

Top price was £92 paid for Texels from Little Culmain, Crocketford, or 213.3p per kg for more of the same from Messrs Campbell, Tappit Lane, Elrig.

Cast sheep (364) were led by a £113.50 bid for Texel rams from Castlehill, with ewes to £98.50 for Texels from Midtown.


Dingwall and Highland Marts sold 18 prime cattle and 1518 old season lambs and 173 feeding sheep at their sale.

Bullocks averaged 201.3p having sold to 212.0p for a 550kg Limousin cross from Easter Hardmuir, Nairn and £1330.00 twice for 665kg Salers crosses from Rosebrae Farm, Elgin.

Heifers peaked 206.0p for a 545kg Charolais from Easter Hardmuir and £1311.00 for a Limousin from Ashley, North Kessock, to average 197.9p.

Prime hoggs averaged 180.4p with top prices of 232.1p and £95 paid for Beltex crosses and Charollais crosses from Torgorm. Beltex from Greenlands, Arabella also sold at £95.

Newton Stewart

ON Wednesday, Craig Wilson sold 1264 prime hoggs to average 175.4p per kg.

Top price was £94 per head paid for heavyweight Beltex crosses from T Forsyth, Isle Farm, Whithorn and 219.7p per kg for Cheviot crosses from Messrs Bowman, Bagbie, Creetown.

Cast sheep (152) were topped by Texel cross ewes from Messrs Stewart, Knockcoid. Rams averaged £52.05; light ewes at £44.13, with the overall ewe average at £63.82.
