AT United Auctions’ show and sale of 1798 store cattle, 142 cast cows and 644 store and breeding sheep, 979 bullocks averaged 221.5p, selling to 254.4p per kg for a 287kg Charolais cross from West Balmirmer, and £1300 for a 682kg Charolais cross from Thirds.

Dairy bullocks (8) averaged 157.80p from a top price of 187.10p for a 449kg Montbeliarde cross from Holton, and to £840 for the same.

Heifers (803) sold to 262.10p per kg for a 412kg Limousin cross from Townhead of Arngibbon, to level at 215.94p. Top price per head was £1310 for a 694kg Charolais cross from Thirds.

A Limousin cross from Sunnyhill topped the eight young bulls which averaged 209.18p at 216.80p per kg and £940 for a Limousin cross from Sunnyhill.

British Blues led the entry of 118 beef cows selling to 175.20p per kg from Newton of Arbirlot, and £1390 from Monzie, while dairy cows (24) peaked at 133.70p for a Holstein Friesian cross from Bankhead of Balcurvie, and £935 for the same from Broughmore. Beef cows averaged 131.63p while dairy entries levelled at 99.63p.

The firm's sale of 644 store and breeding sheep, was led by Suffolks at £68.50 from Blarnavaid.

Topping the cattle trade at £1275 were Limousin crosses from Trolane, while top price per kg was 261.6p paid to Messrs Davidson, Poldean for a pen of Charolais crosses.

Heifers sold to £1195 again for Limousin crosses off Trolane and to 222.6p for Charolais crosses from Poldean.

With an increased numbers 322 bullocks averaged 207p per kg, while 211 heifers averaged 200p per kg.
