Dumfries

Prime cattle sold to 234p per kg for a Limousin cross heifer from J Jardine, Yett, when C and D Auction Marts held their week sale at Dumfries.

Some 787 prime hoggs reached £100 for a Texel from Lanarkland, and 228p per kg from Meikleholm.

The 189 cast ewes and rams met a top of £116.50 for a Texel ewe from The Bush, with the same home selling a Texel ram at the same money.

Newton Stewart

A much smaller show of 552 prime hoggs were forward at Craig Wilson’s sale where the average was 193.3p per kg.

The sale peaked at £87 for a Beltex from Viewfield, and 213.3p per kg for a pen of 29 Blackface hoggs from Risk.

The 65 cast ewes and tups sold at slightly lesser rates than last week, and to a top of £109 for a Lleyn tup from Auchentibbert. Lleyn ewes sold from the same home led the ewe trade at £94. Mules sold to £82 from Laggansarroch, with Blackfaces selling to £56 from Miltonise.

Penrith

LAST Wednesday, Penrith and District Farmers sold 2227 prime hoggs and 1178 cast ewes and rams, with an SQQ average of 225p per kg and an overall of 206p being achieved.

A top of 295p was reached for a pen of 39kg Beltex cross Texel hoggs from RW and G Dickinson, High Knipe, totalling £115 per head.

Top per head was £125 for 46kg Beltex hoggs from MTP and SD Wills, Fawcett Park.

An overall sale average of £93.88 per head was achieved.

Cast Ewes and Rams were dear once again with an overall average of £78.25 being achieved, topping at £167 for a pen of eight Texel ewes from Holme House. A total of 241 ewes sold to over £100 and average £111.46.

Forfar

LAWRIE and Symington had forward 30 prime cattle and 914 prime sheep and cast ewes.

Bullocks (10) sold to a top of 242p per kg for a 596kg Limousin from Nethermyres and to £1460.91 for a 627kg Limousin from the same home, to average 220p.

Heifers (20) sold to a top of 250p per kg for a 538kg Limousin from Nethermyres and and to £1430 for a 650kg British Blue from Gask, to average 217p.

Some 802 prime hoggs sold to 233.3p per kg for Texels from Torrax and £108 per head for Beltex (twice) from Easter Balgillo.

The SQQ average was 211.9p per kg, and the overall, 198.4p.

Cockermouth

THE weekly sale at Mitchells Livestock Centre saw 30 cull cattle, 23 prime bulls and clean cattle, 1235 hoggs and 473 cast ewes and rams forward.

Heifers sold to 184.5p p for British Blues from Lowca Cottage, and £1065.86 for the same.

A British Blue bull was highest price per kg at 200p, £1354 for TA Byers, Ellenbank.

Cast cows were good to sell with a Limousin cow from P and PI Walker and Son, Beechcroft, selling for 157.50p, £1220.63.

The SQQ average was 196.8p per kg. Leading price per kg was a Beltex hogg from WS Jackson, Nook, selling for 273.9p, while a Texel hogg sold at £128 from E Naylor, Hill Green.

Huntly

UNITED Auctions sold 2311 prime hoggs to 244p per kg for 34kg Beltex from Lythebrae, Aberchirder, and to £101.50 gross for 55kg Suffolk crosses from Bogenhilt, Forglen.

Ewes sold to a top of £151 twice for Charollais from Logie Durno, Pitcaple.

Stirling (Cal)

AN Aberdeen-Angus heifer from DS and RC Taylor, Easter Ochtermuthill topped Caledonian Marts sale of 79 bullocks, heifers and young bulls, at 250p per kg.

Top price per head was £1539 for a Limousin from W Dandie and Sone, Learielaw.

Bullocks peaked at 242p for a limousine from Learielaw and £1598 for a Sho9rthorn from HA Brown, Molemount.

The 61 OTMs and young bulls sold to 212p, £1428 for a Limousin from M Jack, Carriston.

On Tuesday, the overall average for 2035 prime hoggs was 201p, with the 975 SQQ hoggs averaging 213.1p.

Top price of the day went to J Taylor, Easter Ochtermuthill for a 50kg Beltex at £116, while the top price per kg went to MJ and G MacRae, Coulshill, for a pair of 44.5kg Beltex at 247p.

Also forward were 328 cast ewes and tups, which sold to £109 for a pen of Beltex ewes from A Wright, West Lundie, Doune. Tups sold to £114 from D Downie, Plunkie, Star of Markinch.

Stirling (UA)

SOME 5815 prime hoggs went through United Auctions ring to average 200.14p per kg.

Beltex from Luckenburn made £126 and 288p per kg to top the sale.

Ewes (936) sold to £145 for a Texel from Humeston, while rams sold to £110 for a Texel from Townhead.

Thainstone

EIGHT prime bullocks averaged 192p at Aberdeen and Northern Marts’ sale. The top was 212p for a 645kg Aberdeen-Angus from Bowbutts, Strachan, and £1457 gross for a 775kg Charolais from Faichfolds, King Edward.

The 28 heifers averaged 206.1p and sold to 236p per kg for a 545kg Limousin from Mains of Knapperna, Udny, and £1338.75 for a 595kg Limousin from Chapelford, Buckie.

Young bulls (six) averaged 160.2p and sold to 167p per kg for a 715kg Limousin from Greenbrae, Auchterless, and £1352.90 gross for an 830kg Charolais from Mormond Prop, New Pitsligo.

The firm sold 4577 prime hoggs to average 196.1p, selling to 243p per kg for Texel crosses from Lost, Strathdon, and £107 for Texels from Fawside, Kineff.

The SQQ average was 210.8p.

The 774 feeding ewes and rams sold to £167 for Texel ewes from Glenisla.

Longtown

THE weekly sale at C and D Auction Marts’ Longtown base saw forward 15 cattle, 5228 prime hoggs and 2367 cast ewes.

The sale topped at 148p for Luings from J Baxter, Kilnhill, Gilsland, while top price per head of £1069 came for an Aberdeen-Angus from TD and JR Byers, Cubbyhill

A larger show of 5228 prime hoggs were another excellent quality show saw trade dearer throughout producing an average of 204.8p, SQQ 221.0p.

Top price was 344p for a pen of Beltex hoggs from M Dunlop, Corstane, Lanark. Top average was £127 per head and 287p per kg for a consignment of 50 Beltex hoggs shown by DS and RC Taylor, Easter Ochtermuthill, Perth.

Lanark

SOME 125 cattle sold through Lawrie and Symington on Monday, with trade reaching 254p per kg for a Limousin heifer from David Dickinson, Brockwoodlees, Canonbie.

Top gross heifer price was £1623 again from Brockwoodlees.

Bullocks sold to £1347 from Gilmeadowland.

Cast cows sold to £1455 from Bushelhead and 172p per kg from Badenheath Park.

The largest show of hoggs at the mart this season saw 3846 sell to £127 for pens of Beltex and Texels from Wellhead.

Ayr

ON Monday, Craig Wilson sold 3014 prime hoggs, eight spring lambs and 591 cast ewes and tups.

Hoggs averaged 200.1p or 209.9p SQQ and sold to £110 on two separate occasions. Firstly for a pen of five Texels from A Currie, Fisherton, then for a pen of Beltex from M Stevenson, Balcaimie. Top price per kg was 232.9p for a pen of 23 Beltex from J and A McLellan, Mid Floak.

The 591 cast sheep sold to £139 for a Texel ewe from J and E Paterson, Oxenshaw, and tups sold to £98 for a Suffolk from James Thomson and Son, Blairbowie.

St Boswells

HARRISON and Hetherington sold 74 clean cattle, 28 cast cows, 2010 hoggs and 185 ewes.

Bullocks (34) averaged 207p per kg and sold to 235p, while 40 heifers averaged 217p per kg and sold to 252p.

The 28 cast cows averaged 142p per kg and sold to 185p, and £1519.70.

Some 2010 hoggs averaged 192.5p per kg and sold to £116 and 307p per kg for Beltex.

There were 185 ewes which averaged £81 and sold to £129 for Suffolks.

Carlisle

IN Carlisle, a larger entry of 57 prime steers and heifers were forward for Harrison and Hetherington's sale.

Top overall was a Limousin cross heifer from Messrs Miller, West Farm, Aspatria, which achieved £1609. Top pence per kg of 239.5p was another Limousin cross from Messrs Bowe, Bothel Parks, Wigton.

There were 207 cast cows and stock bulls forward and Messrs Priestley, Cracrop, sold a 878kg Limousin cow for 147.5p, £1295.

A good entry of 112 prime bulls saw a Limousin from Messrs Graham, Miller Hill, Brampton, sell at £1546. Top pence per kg of 226.5p was achieved by Messrs Carruthers, Glenzierfoot, for a Limousin cross.

Black and whites peaked at £1289, 184.5p from Seymour Farms, Leegate, Wigton.

The sale of 2055 cast sheep and prime hoggs saw an overall average for hoggs of £96.68, 204.3p, with an SQQ average of 222.54p.

This section was topped by CR and CL Donaldson, Hazel House, York, who sold a pen of three Texel cross lambs at £124.80. Topping pence per kg was 298.8p for a pen of four Beltex from G Lomax.

Topping the sale of cast sheep was a Beltex ram from Messrs Campbell, Stranraer, which sold for £102.50.

Dingwall

DINGWALL and Highland Marts sold 10 prime cattle, with three bullocks averaging 209.3p and selling to 213.0p per kg for a 635kg Limousin cross and £1373.50 for a 670kg Limousin cross both from Ashley, North Kessock.

Prime heifers (7) averaged 212.9p and sold to 222.0p per kg for a 580kg Limousin cross from Bridgend, Dingwall, and £1326.60 gross for a 660kg Limousin cross from Ashley, North Kessock.

Old season lambs (1191) averaged 215.2p and reached 247.5 per kg for a pen of 40kg Beltex crosses from Torgorm, Conon Bridge, and £111 for a pen of 56kg Beltex crosses from Upperton, Balnain. SQQ hoggs averaged 221.3p.

Feeding sheep (57) sold to £124 gross for Texel ewes from Inshes, Inverness.

Castle Douglas

ON Tuesday, Wallets Marts sold 905 prime sheep to average 198.96p, SQQ 211.56p.

Top was £113 for Texel hoggs from Messrs Johnston, Townhead of Culloch, Dalbeattie. Top per kg was 267p for Beltex from Messrs MacTagtgart, Craigview.

Blackface sold to £96 from Messrs Burns, Craignell, and to 227.5p for a pen of export weights from Beoch Loch Doon.

The 187 cast sheep forward were again readily bid for, selling to £131.50 for Texels from Barlocco.
