THE weekly sale of store cattle at Harrison and Hetherington’s Carlisle mart attracted an entry of 471 head. Messrs Bowman, Croft House, Renwick topped the sale with a Limousin cross heifer which sold for £1390, while bullocks sold to a top of £1245 on two occasions, both for Limousin crosses firstly from Messrs Morton, Church Farm, Gamblesby, and secondly from Messrs Lloyd, Fishergill, Aikton.

On Monday a small entry of store hoggs sold to an average of £77.62.

UNITED Auctions held their show and sale of 1472 store cattle, 48 cast cows and 2253 store and breeding sheep.

Bullocks (807) averaged 221.99p and sold to 268.00p per kg for a 291kg Charolais cross from Westerhall, and to £1360 for a 663kg Simmental cross from Barbarafield.

The 630 heifers averaged 217.72p and sold to 359.40p per kg for a 384kg Limousin cross from Buteland, and to £1380 for the same.

The firm also sold 2253 store and breeding sheep, with hoggs selling to £93 from Ardmaleish.

AN Aberdeen-Angus from Ravenslie topped Craig Wilson’s sale, selling at £1300, while top price per kg was 249.3p for a pen of Limousins from west Brockloch. The 185 bullocks averaged 216.6p per kg, £926.23.

Heifers peaked at £1165 for a Limousin from Rosemount, and 248.1p for a pen of Limousins from Glanderston, and the 117 averaged 213.3p, £869.27.

There were 37 Friesian bullocks forward which averaged 152.6p, £780.54.

Also forward were 172 store and breeding sheep, with ewes with lambs selling to £192 for a pen of Texels gimmers with twin Suffolk lambs at foot from Messrs Bothwell, Smithston.

The 154 store hoggs reached £88 for a pen of Cheviots from Dougarie Estate, Arran, and for a pen of Texels from Messrs Cook, Glendoune. Hoggs averaged £71.36.

AN average of 230.3p per kg for 868 bullocks was achieved when Aberdeen and Northern Marts sold 1540 store cattle and 11 young calves.

Top price was 297p for a 330kg Limousin cross from Lethendry, Grantown on Spey, and £1455 for a 704kg Limousin cross from Stoneyhill, Longhaven.

Heifers (649) averaged 227.8p and sold to 333.3p per kg and £1400 gross for a British Blue Cross from The Ess, Dalbuiack, Carrbridge.

The 12 bulls forward averaged 200.4p and reached 230.8p per kg for a 338kg Limousin cross from Wattle, Birsay, and £970 gross for a 448kg Limousin cross from Shenval, Ballindalloch.

The firm also sold 921 ewes with lambs and store lambs, with 135 ewes with lambs at foot selling to £65 for Mule four-crop ewes with lamb and a half from Cairnton, Fordyce.

Heifers sold to a top of £1155 four times, firstly for a pair of Limousins from F Mattocks and Son, Row Hall, Dearham, and again for another pair from IR and JM Fearon, Frizington Hall, Frizington.

The first entry of Ewes and Lambs this season sold to a top of £57 per life for correct Mule ewes with twin lambs at foot from Messrs Walker and Hunter, Fieldside.

The mart’s show and sale of store cattle saw the championship go to a 395kg Limousin cross bullock from WJ and GA Fraser, Little Croy, Croy, which later realised £950.

Reserve champion was a 405kg British Blue heifer from A and N Gordon, Achnahannet, Dulnain Bridge, which made £1115.

Some 3266 ewe hoggs averaged £73.26 and sold to £138 gross for a pen of Cheviots from Suisgill Estate, Helmsdale. Wedder lambs (2072) averaged £63.65 and sold to £105 for a Texel from Hollies, Beauly.

THE fortnightly sale at Castle Douglas, saw Wallets Marts sell 898 store and OTM cattle and all classes of cattle met a strong demand topping at £1260 for a pen of Limousin bullocks from Messrs Robb, Trolane, Dalry.

Top price per kg was 279.6p paid to Messrs Davidson, Poldean for a pen of eight Charolais bullocks. Poldean sold 29 bullocks to average 277.1p per kg.

The heifer section topped at £1180 for a pen of Charolais crosses from Messrs McHarrie, High Glenjorrie and 271.4p per kg for South Devon heifers from N and J Newbould and Son, Meikle Cloak, Dalbeattie.

Overall sale, 523 bullocks levelled at 219.4p and £924.12, whilst 346 heifers averaged 211.2p per kg, £832.01.
