Dumfries

PRIME cattle sold to 235p per kg when C and D Auction Marts held their Dumfries sale of 48 head. This was paid for a Limousin heifer from J and L Craik, Waterside.

The 35 OTM cattle averaged 126.8p per kg, and sold to 150p per kg, £1190.70 for a Limousin from Midtown.

The 834 prime hoggs sold to £100 for a Texel from Lanarkland, while the 242 cast ewes met a top call of £148.50 for a Texel from The Bush.

Newton Stewart

A larger show of 1539 prime and cast sheep was forward at Newton Stewart when Craig Wilson sold 1403 hoggs to average 196.5p per kg and 207.6p SQQ.

Topping the sale at £111 and 258p per kg was a Beltex from Miltoy Mains, Machermore

The 1022 Blackface hoggs averaged 200.4p and topped at £94 for a pen from Messrs McIntosh, Old Hall, and 215.3p for a pen of Lagafater Farms.

There were 136 ewes and rams sold, with Beltex cross ewes from Messrs Milroy, Mains of Machermore, selling to £100.

Penrith

LAST Wednesday Penrith and District Farmers’ Mart sold 2479 prime hoggs and 1043 cast ewes and rams, and an SQQ average of 227p per kg was achieved.

The sale peaked at 324p, £123 for a pen of 38kg Beltex hoggs from MH Elliott, Espland House.

Cast ewes and rams met another flying trade with an overall average of £84.83, up £6 per head on the week, topping at £146 for pure Texel ewes.

Wooler

HARRISON and Hetherington’s Wooler saw a top of £92 for hoggs. This was paid for a pen from South Dissinton.

Top price per kg was 211.7p for North Country Cheviots from South Ord.

Ewes sold to £107 for a Texel from East Newburn, while rams sold to £125 for a Texel from £125.

Forfar

THER were 25 prime cattle forward at Lawrie and Symington’s sale when eight bullocks sold to 235p per kg for a 605kg Limousin from Nethermyres, to average 222p per kg.

The 17 heifers sold to 260p and £1567.60 for a 596kg limouisn from Nethermyres, to level at 224p.

Prime hoggs (413) were dearer by 12p per kg and sold to 241.5p per kg for Texels from Coiliamy and to £108 per head for Texels from Torrax.

Overall, hoggs averaged 206p per kg and 217.6p SQQ.

Texel ewes sold to £170 twice from Shandford to top the section.

Cockermouth

AT Mitchells Livestock Centre, 38 head of prime cattle sold, along with 1337 prime sheep.

On Wednesday 10th April 2019 Mitchells Livestock Centre, Cockermouth held their weekly sale of primestock with 38 cattle comprising 19 cull cattle and 19 prime bulls and clean cattle, 1337 prime sheep including 1099 hoggs, 2 lambs and 235 cast ewes and rams.

The Easter show and sale saw Messrs Bowe, Hunday Farm receive the championship honours with a Limousin cross heifer which later sold for 233.5p per kg, £1389.33.

Leading the sale in price per head at £1424.76 was a Limousin bull from D and MA Wilson, Lamplugh Hall.

Prime heifers sold to 233.5p and £1389.33 for Limousins from Hunday, while steers sold to 206.5p and £1063.48 from Swinside End.

Bulls sold to 217.5p from Lowside, and £1424.76 from Lamplugh Hall. Cast cows sold to 158.5p and £1103.16 for a Limousin from Cathow.

The Easter show of 1099 prime hoggs saw a pair of Beltex cross hoggs from WS Jackson, Nook Farm stand champion before selling for £162 per head and 324p per kg.

There was an SQQ average of 203.44p.

Spring lambs topped at 275.90 pence per kg (£149) for Charollais from D and LD Norman, Kirkhouse.

Huntly

IN Huntly, United Auctions sold 3413 prime sheep, with 2355 hoggs selling to 230p per kg for 38kg Cheviots from Rannoch, Tain, and to 3103 for a 54kg Texel from The Milton, Cabrach.

Stirling (Cal)

CALEDONIAN Marts sold 131 cattle, with prime bullocks reaching 250p twice from AS Hay, Mains of Cultmalundie, Tibbermore, and also from A Kennedy and Sons, Seggersdean, Haddington, and then to £1652 for a Charolais from Ferguson Bros, Gillandersland, Linlithgow.

Prime Heifers also sold to 250p for a Limousin from Mains of Cultmalundie, and to £1426 for a Limousin from J Collier, Dullomuir, Blairadam.

Young bulls sold to 208p for a Limousin from M Jack, Carriston, Star of Markinch and to £1526 from the same home.

Caledonian Marts Ltd sold 1468 Prime Hoggets, Ewes & Tups.

The overall average for 1317 hoggs was 184.5p per kg, back 15.5p on the week. Top price of the day went to Jimmy Taylor, Easter Ochtermuthill, with a 56kg Beltex at £114.Top price per kg went to Dean Stewart, Leysbent, at 246p for a pen of 44kg Beltex.

Stirling (UA)

UNITED Auctions sold 5202 old season lambs to average 200.58p, and selling to £120 for Texels from Luckenburn and 277p per kg for Texels from Longfauld.

Charollais from Langside topped the sale of new season lamb sold at £132 and 291p per kg.

Some 1116 ewes sold to £132 for Charollais from Langside, while rams peaked at £100 for a Texel from Whitehouse.

Thainstone

Aberdeen and Northern Marts’ sale saw 108 beef cows average 146.3p, and sell to a top of 205.6p per kg for a 450kg Limousin from East Gate, Burrafirth, and £1430 gross for a 905kg Simmental from Turfhillock, Drummuir.

Bulls (seven) averaged 123.1p and sold to 139.5p per kg for a 810kg Limousin from Greenbrae, Auchterless,and £1410 gross for a 1170kg Limousin from Glasslaw, Dunnottar.

The firm also sold 7079 hoggs to average 197.3p per kg and to 240p per kg for 40kg Texels from Milton of Gaval, Mintlaw, and £146 gross for 76kg Beltex from Woolhillock, Skene

Feeding ewes and rams (642) sold to £127.50 for Texels from Skelbister, Orphir and Wester Biffie, Maud.

Longtown

IN Longtown, C and D Auction Marts had forward 6302 prime hoggs and 2919 cast ewes and rams.

The sale resulted in an SQQ average of 218.1p and an overall of 205.8p overall.

The sale topped at 300p per kg for Beltex hoggs from D and D Aitken, Uppercleuch, Lockerbie, with top price per head of £130 being achieved again for Beltex hoggs this time from NJ McQuiston, High Airyolland, Newton Stewart.

The first spring lambs of the season were forward from The Lands and these 54kg Suffolks realised £104.

Lanark

ON Monday, Lawrie and Symington sold 110 prime cattle to a top of 254p per kg for a Limousin heifer from David Dickinson, Brockwoodlees.

Bullocks sold to 231p for a Limousin from Barrie Farmers, Howburn, Elsrickle.

The sale of 2973 hoggs topped at £127 per head for Beltex from J and JM Cochrane, Richardton, Darvel, and 297p per kg for Beltex from A Taylor, Heatheryhall, Pettinain. The overall average was 204.5p, and 214.5p SQQ.

A show of 835 cast ewes and rams saw a top of £154 for Texels from W Boyd, Overburns.

Ayr

Craig Wilson sold 1602 prime hoggs to a top of £112 for a pair of Beltex from Messrs Dunlop, West Enoch, Maybole, and 232.6p for two Texels from J Gatherer, Hill of Ochiltree.

Also forward were 248 cast sheep with trade peaking at £137 for a Texel ewe from Messrs Brown, Barrance, with Mules selling to £88 for a pen off Messrs Sheddan, Newfield Mains, and Blackfaces reaching £69 for a pen consigned by Messrs McIntyre, Cedar Cottage.

St Boswells

THE sale at St Boswells saw Harrison and Hetherington sell 19 bullocks to average 209.52p per kg and to a top of 232p. Heifers (39) levelled at 219p per kg and sold to 237p.

Some 941 hoggs averaged 188.8p and sold to £115 and 250p for Texel hoggs. The SQQ average was 212p.

Ewes averaged £71.48 and sold to £130 for Texels.

Castle Douglas

ON Tuesday, Wallets Marts had forward 210 prime hoggs which sold to average 187.96p, SQQ 204.99.

Top was £103 three times all for heavy Texels, firstly from Messrs Black, Erncrogo Crossmichael, then Messrs

Borland, Castlehill, Gelston, and lastly from Messrs Wiliamson and Ross, Breckoniehill, Castle Douglas. Top per kg was

222.5 for Texels from Messrs Wilson, West Barmoffity, Kirkpatrick Durham.

Cast sheep (194) sold to £101.50 for Suffolk ewes from Sunnyhill, while Blackfaces sold to £74.50 from Mains of Collin.

Dingwall

IN Dingwall, five prime heifers averaged 212p and sold to 219p per kg and £1303.05 gross for a 595kg Limousin cross from Bridgend Farm, Dingwall.

The single bullock, a 630kg British Blue from Easter Sheeppark, Balblair, sold at 216p per kg and £1360.80.

Prime hoggs (1441) averaged 205.2p and sold to 235.3p per kg for a pen of 42.5kg Beltex crosses from Balmaglaster, Spean Bridge, and £104 for a pen of 44.5kg Beltex crosses from Torgorm, Conon Bridge. The SQQ average was 210.5p.
