All classes met a firm trade at Dingwall and Highland Marts' sale of 804 store and 53 OTM cattle, where bullocks averaged 225.8p and heifers cashed in at 215.1p.

The 423 bullocks peaked at 268.8p per kg for a 400kg Limousin cross from Kinchyle Farm, Scaniport. Lead price per head was £1200 paid three times – for a 650kg Simmental cross from 17 Englishtonmuir, Bunchrew; a 547kg Charolais cross from Kincraig Farm, Invergordon and a 625kg Limousin cross from Kinchyle Farm.

Leading the 375 heifers at 314.3p was a 350kg Limousin from Fairburn Estate, Urray, while a 720kg Simmental crosss from Shawpark, North Kessock, sold for the top price per head of £1320.

OTM prime and feeding cows averaged 138.0p, having sold to 183.5p for a 486kg Simmental from Tomcluich, Nairn and £1350 for a 925kg Aberdeen-Angus cross from Kindeace.

Stirling UA

MORE than 2300 store cattle, 160 cast cows and 237 store and breeding sheep were sold through United Auctions' Stirling centre, where a 666kg Charolais cross bullock from Ashfield, topped the store trade at £1300.

Top price per kg was 273.0p paid for a 255kg Simmental cross bullock from Dyke, with the 1235 bullocks cashing in to average 221.38p.

Meuse-Rhine-Issel crosses from West House topped the 45 dairy bullocks which averaged 149.6p, selling to 184.4p and £935 for a 507kg entry.

And, the 1046 heifers were topped at 272.0p by a 426kg Limousin cross from Wester Middleton and £1260 for a 680kg Simmental cross from Milton. They balanced out at 212.0p.

Top price overall was £1550 paid for a Charolais cross cow from Mid Cambushinnie, while lead price per kg in the section was 189.4p paid for a Limousin cross from Woodhead of Mailer.

Dairy types peaked at £1070 for a Montbeliarde cross from Meikle Camoquhill or 159.20p for a Holstein cross from Meldrum. The 130 beef types averaged 144.1p, with the 28 dairy entries at 118.4p.

The 237 store and breeding sheep peaked at £196 for Texel ewes with twin born Beltex lambs from Culdees.

Ayr

All classes sold dearer than the previous sale at Craig Wilson's sale of 1003 store cattle in Ayr, where a large ringside of buyers was in attendance.

Top price overall was £1335 paid for an Aberdeen Angus bullock from Clevance or 262.3p Limousins from Crosslees.

Heifers peaked at £1290 for Limousins off Netherton, Dalrymple or 259.3p for more of the same from Crosslees.

And, Friesian bullocks sold to £920 from Barward and 179.6p per kg from Drongan Mains.

Overall, 571 bullocks averaged 219.8p per kg or £912.79 per head, with 68 Friesian bullocks at 160.3p or £704.26. The 364 heifers levelled at 212.6p or £849.64.

Also forward were 186 store and breeding sheep which saw a strong trade throughout for the 130 breeding sheep which sold to £224 for a pen of Texel ewes with twin Beltex lambs from Messrs Dunlop, Holehouse, Ochiltree.

Thainstone

A good show of store cattle saw all classes easily maintain the previous week’s rates at Aberdeen and Northern Marts' sale of 2500 head, with the sale of 194 heifers with breeding potential enjoying a particularly strong demand.

The BVD virus free and vaccinated heifers topped the trade with a heavy heifer from Redhill, Mosstowie, selling at £1700, while another from Connachie sold for 294.1p.

Outwith the breeding heifers, Simmental crosses topped the majority of store sections. The 1195 bullocks sold to £1415 for a 710kg Simmental cross from Steelsbrae, Fochabers.

Heifers peaked at 281p per kg for a 420kg Simmy cross from Drumneachie, Birse, and £1410 for three of the same scaling 618kg from Newton of Drum, Drumoak.

Top price per kg amongst the bullocks was 289.5p paid for four 342kg Charolais crosses from Mains of Wardhouse, Insch.

Overall, 1195 bullocks averaged 226.8p, with 1065 heifers cashing in at 219.5p. The 41 bulls averaged 210.6p and 194 potential breeding heifers at 240.5p.

Ewes and lambs sold the same day also met a buoyant demand with the 1824 lots peaking at £75 per head for Cheviot Mule hoggs with a lamb and a half from Plewlands, Duffus

Ewe lambs (32) pealed at £98 for Mules from North Retannach, Rothiemay; store lambs (274) sold to £86 for Texel crosses from North Retannach and the 111 island lambs hit a top of £81.50 for Suffolks from Norville, Norby.

A cow with calf at foot from Homeston, Campbeltown, topped the trade at £1400, at United Auctions' spring sale of 302 grazing and 36 breeding cattle and 114 sheep of all classes, last weekend.

Store bullocks sold to 265p per kg for Limousin cross heifers from Dall, while Charolais from Tiraghoil, topped the heifers at 256p.

Overall, bullocks averaged £785.84 (-£3.69 on the year) while heifers levelled at £741.77 (£8.35).

Quoybrae

Charolais crosses from Gillock Mains produced the lead prices per kg at Aberdeen and Northern Marts' sale of 214 store cattle, on Monday.

The sale, which included 14 breeding cattle and 263 prime and store sheep, saw 106 bullocks sell to 260.2p for 315kg Charolais crosses and 273p for three 344kg heifers from the same home.

Top price per head was £1240 for a 654kg Shorthorn cross bullock from Blackpark, Watten, and £1100 for a 570kg Luing cross from Toftcarl, Thrumster.

Overall 106 bullocks averaged 217.2p per kg with 108 heifers at 210.9p.

The small entry of breeding cattle peaked at £2400 for a Simmental cow with bull calf from Newfield, Wick.

Store lambs (115) sold to £85 for Cheviots from Hillview, Sarclet and feeding sheep (100) peaked at £110 for Suffolks from Athenry, Schoolfield, Janetstown.

Despite a plainer show for quality, store cattle maintained recent rates at Wallets Marts' sale of 310 stores, 39 OTM and 103 breeding cattle, on Monday, where a Limousin bull from Messrs Hansell and Co, Nether Barr, Corsock, topped the trade at £3000.

Breeding cattle peaked at £2400 for a Limousin cross heifer and bull calf from Garmartin.

Leading the store cattle trade at £1290 were Limousin cross bullocks from Kirkmabreck while Charolais crosses from Poldean produced the top price per kg at 285.7p.

Overall, bullocks averaged 226.2p or £903.62 with heifers at 201.8p or £780.67.

OTM cattle sold to 158p per kg or £1160 for a Simmental bulls from ??? to level at average was 133.8p per kg.
