A steady trade for all classes of stock prevailed at Harrison and Hetherington's weekly sale of 511 stores, 301 calves and 127 dairy cattle, where bullocks sold to £1270 for a Limousin cross from Bowman, Croft House, Penrith and heifers peaked at £1240 for the same breed from Grice, Newtown, Carlisle.

A smaller show of ewes and hoggs with lambs were forward with a top price of £100 achieved three times, all of which from Messrs Ramsay, Dockray Hall, Wigton, with Texel hoggs and Beltex lambs at foot.

Almost 200 store cattle and nine young calves were forward for Aberdeen and Northern Marts' weekly sale, where bullocks sold to 289.1p per kg for a pair of 256 Limousin’s from Leary, Marwick and £1225 for a 562kg Limousin cross from Ingsay, Swannay, to level at 213.3p.

Heifers peaked at 259.5p for a 316kg British Blue cross from Mucklehouse, Swannay and £1125 for a 556kg Simmental cross from Ingsay, producing an average of 204p.

Breeding cattle also met a strong trade, where a top price of £2450 was achieved for a Simmental heifer with a bull calf from Lost, Strathdon.

Also forward were 300 ewes with lambs and store lambs where old season lambs sold to £100 for Suffolks from Cryla while new season lambs peaked at £87 for Suffolks from Cryla, Maud.

Ewes and lambs also met a buoyant trade selling to a top of £76 per life for Texel ewes with lambs from D Golding, Gorawood.

Hexham and Northern Marts' store sale saw a strong show in all sections with a top price of £1290 paid for an Aberdeen-Angus cross bullock from David Johnson, Blackhalls, whilst heifers peaked at £1190 for a Limousin cross from East Newman.

The firm's breeding cattle sale also met a buoyant demand with a top price of £2600 paid for a Limousin cross with calf at foot from Mirlaw House.

A smaller entry of breeding sheep saw an improved trade selling to £200 for a two-crop Cheviot ewe with Suffolk cross twin lambs from J Gillespie, Huntlaw Cottage.

A strong trade was seen throughout at Caledonian Marts' fortnightly sale of 248 store cattle, where Limousin bullocks led the way at 224p per kg and £1110 from C Imrie, Alton, Milton of Campsie and GS Adam, Hill of Arnmore, Kippen respectively, to level at 208p.

Top price amongst the heifers was 219p for Limousins from East Springfield and £1070 for Aberdeen-Angus’ from Burnside Estate, producing an average of 202p.

Breeding cattle sold to £2000 for a Simmental cross heifer with bull calf from S Graham, Parkhouse, Crieff.

Also sold the same day were 177 ewes with lambs, which saw a lead price of £175 for Mule ewes with twin lambs from Reston and Berwick Farming, Shawbraes.

Dumfries

A strong trade was seen throughout all classes at C and D Auction Marts' fortnightly sale of 150 store cattle. Aberdeen-Angus' from High Auchneel topped both the heifers and bullocks on the day at £1120 and £1075 respectively.

Also held was their special June sale of breeding cattle in which included the dispersal of stock cows from Townhead, Parkgate and annual draft from Kildarroch, Kirkcowan.
