More than 1100 cattle were forward for Harrison and Hetherington's weekly sale consisting of 760 stores and stirks, 301 calves, 67 dairy cattle and seven commercial dairy cows.

Top price was £1280 paid for a British Blue cross heifer from Messrs Thompson, Wood Head, Carlisle, whilst steers sold to £1215 for a Charolais cross from Messrs Kyle, Spoutbank, Brampton.

A smaller number of weaned cattle were forward saw a steady trade throughout, peaking at £1015 for a Limousin cross steer from McNabney Bros.

Some 202 store cattle were forward for Caledonian Marts' fortnightly sale where a steady trade was seen throughout with Limousins and Simmentals leading the way.

Limousins topped the price per kg section for heifers from J MacDonald, Drumyeonmore and Simmentals from A McKenzie, Ardgate sold to £1070, to level at 201p.

Heifers averaged 196p having peaked at 206p for Simmentals from BD Mundell, Kilchamaig, Whitehouse, Tarbert and to £990 for Limousins from JL Young, Haddockston, Houston.

Longtown

A stronger trade for fewer ewes with lambs was seen at C and D Auction Marts weekly sale, where a top price of £88 was paid on two occasions for Texel three and four-crop ewes with twin lambs from J Browell, Quarry House.
