Top prices at Craig Wilsons’ sale of 724 prime and cast sheep were £100 paid for Texel from S Hannah, Clearview and 213.3p per kg for a Beltex from R Templeton. The sale averaged 198.6p.

A Beltex from Messrs McMillan, Carse O’Clary led the way within the ewes at £90.

Penrith

A strong show of prime sheep was forward for Penrith and District Farmers’ Mart LLP weekly sale of 2645 comprising of 1295 lambs and 1350 cast ewes and rams.

An overall average of 204p was achieved, peaking at 250p for Texel lambs from Messrs Armstrong, Moorriggs.

Wooler

Harrison and Hetherington held their weekly sale of sheep comprising lambs, hoggs and ewes where lambs averaged of 202p per kg.

Top price was £100 paid for a Texel lamb from Low Middleton or 231.p per kg for a Beltex from Chillingham Home.

A Texel from West Longridge led the ewes at £90.

Forfar

Limousins led the way at Lawrie and Symingtons’ sale of 20 prime cattle, where heifers reached 250p per kg and £1432.50 from Nethermyres, to level at 223p.

Bullocks sold to a top of 228p from Pityot and £1436.60 from Nethermyres, to average 223p.

More than 250 prime spring lambs were also forward which sold to 228.6p for a Beltex from Scobshaugh and £99 twice for Texels from Mains of Balhall and for a Beltex from Scobshaugh, to average 197p per kg.

Cockermouth

Mitchells Livestock Centre held their weekly sale of primestock which saw 58 cattle comprising of 30 cull cattle and 28 bullocks and heifers forward.

Leading the sale was a Charolais heifer from Walker and son, Beechcroft which made 218.50p per kg or £1383.11. Limousins led the bullocks at 193.50p and £1279.73 from Lakeview and Beechcroft respectively.

The sale of 1790 prime sheep included 1181 lambs which produced an SQQ average of 202p per kg, and 610 cast ewes and rams.

A Texel from J Sewell, Mayfield topped the sale at £118 with another of the same breed from Messrs Parkin, Home Farm, selling for 245.7p per kg.

Huntly

A steady trade was seen at United Auctions’ sale of 1029 prime sheep where new season lambs sold to 218p per kg for a 44kg Texel from Manderlea, Alvah and to £100 for a 53kg Charollais from Myreton, Insch.

Messrs Laurel, Hallkirk topped the old season lambs at 146p with a 45kg continental and £78.50 for a 62kg Suffolk. Ewes peaked at £135 for Texels from Bardnaclavan, Westfield.

Stirling (Cale)

Caledonian Marts’ sold 165 cattle comprising of 89 prime bullocks, heifers and young bulls, 47 OTM cattle and 29 calves and stirks.

Bullocks peaked at 238p and £1466 for a Limousin from Learielaw, Broxburn, whilst heifers reached 242p for the same breed from Flemington, Cambuslang and £1610 for a Limousin from Todhall, Cupar.

Young bulls sold to 195p twice for the same breed from Balfornought, Stirling and a British Blue from Dalchirla, Muthill. Dalchirla also sold the lead priced young bull per head, a Limousin, at £1384.

On Tuesday, the firm sold 855 prime lambs, cast ewes and tups which included a show and sale of Texel lambs, held in conjunction with the Scottish Texel Sheep Breeders Club.

Lambs from D Nicol, Auchtenny, Forgandenny were awarded both the champion and reserve honours which later sold for £89 and £90 respectively.

Outwith the show, top price went to G McLaren, Blaircessnock, Port of Menteith with a Texel fetching £99 and 218p for a Beltex lamb from RA Campbell, Meikle Seggie, Milnathort.

Stirling UA

Some 2318 prime sheep were forward for United Auctions' sale comprising 1225 lambs and 963 ewes and rams.

Lambs sold to £110 and 240p per kg for a Beltex from Lintibbert, to level at 195.17p.

Thainstone

A steady trade was witnessed at Aberdeen and Northern Marts’ sale of 48 prime cattle, where bullocks sold to 205p for a 595kg Limousin from Whiteside, Tullynessle and £1477.95 for an 885kg Charolais from Stoneyhill, Longhaven.

Heifers peaked at 228p and £1333.80 for a 585kg Limousin from Whiteside.

The five young bulls that were forward realised 193p and £1544 for a 800kg Limousin from Hillocks, Whiterashes.

The firm's sale of 1129 prime sheep saw 343 lambs sell to 219.3p per kg for 44kg Texels from Skilmafilly, Auchnagatt and £100 for 52kg Blue Texels from Shaggart, Sauchen.

Feeding ewes and rams peaked at £135.50 for Texels from Oldtown, Peterculter.

Longtown

A large show of 1843 prime lambs and 2982 cast ewes and rams were forward for C and D Auction marts’ weekly sale.

Prices peaked at 309p for Beltex lambs from TR and EA Milburn, Wallend, Greenhead and £127 for the same breed from the same home. An overall average of 205.4p was reached with an SQQ of 204.5p.

Ayr

Similar trade compared to the previous week was witnessed at Craig Wilson's sale of 1659 sheep comprising 1221 prime lambs and 438 cast sheep, where the sale averaged 194.1p per kg with an SQQ of 195.9p.

Top price was £105 paid for a Texel lamb from W Crawford and Sons, Mansfield Mains and 211.9p for the same breed from Robbie McCulloch, Knockendon.

A pair of Texel ewes topped the cast sheep at £150 per head from Messrs Walker, Laigh Alticane.

St Boswells

Harrison and Hetherington's weekly primestock sale of cattle and sheep, saw bullocks and heifers average 202p per kg and 209p respectively.

An increased trade saw heifers sell to 239p from Messrs Penston whilst bullocks peaked at 228p from West Garleton.

Prime lambs were topped at £118 and 224p per kg for Texels from The Knock, to level at 196p per kg, with ewes averaging £70.

Lanark

Heifers led the way at Lawrie and Symington’s sale of 76 cattle comprising of 27 prime cattle and 49 cast cows.

Selling for the top price of 252p per kg was a Limousin from Messrs Dickson, Brockwoodless while an entry from Todhall sold for the lead price per head of £1445.52.

Bullocks peaked at £1391.04 from Howburn and 232p from Todhall.

Also forward were some 2300 sheep comprising of 971 prime lambs and 1336 cast ewes and tups, which saw lambs average 188.3p per kg with an SQQ of 190p.

Lambs sold to £107 for Texels from Messrs Struthers, Collielaw and 247p for a Beltex from Messrs Frame Haspielaw.

The cast trade was topped at £145 for Texel ewes from Messrs Meikle, Newhouse.

Carlisle

On Monday, Harrison and Hetherington held their weekly sale of primestock with a strong show of 345 cast cows, bulls and cattle forward.

Limousin cross steers topped the sale at £1660 from Studholme, Nealhouse, Carlisle and 229.5p from Messrs Cope, Kirkland Guards, Wigton.

Heifers peaked at £1625 for more of the same from Messrs McClelland, Stainburn House, Workington and 242.5p from Messrs Byers, Ellen Bank.

Limousins also led the young bulls at £1504 from Messrs Logan, Homebyres, Kelso. Top pence per kg was 198.5p which came from the same home for a Blonde.

A strong entry of 1561 prime sheep, saw lambs average 204p per kg, selling to £115.50 for Blue Texel cross lambs from Messrs Currie, Eden Dales, Carlisle.

Topping the pence per kg at 268.8p were Beltex cross lambs from W Gribbon and Co, Waterside Farm, Cargenbridge.

Castle Douglas

Some 922 prime and cast sheep were forward for Wallets Marts’ annual summer show and sale, where 833 prime lambs sold to average 192.2p.

Top price per head was £109 paid for Texels from Messrs Brown, Trowdale, Castle Douglas and 232.1p per kg for the champion pen of lambs, Beltex from Gelston Castle farms, Castle Douglas.

The reserve, Texel lambs from Messrs Sturgess, Cullinaw, made £105.

Cast sheep sold to £93.50 for Suffolk ewes from Rigghead, Shawhead.

Dingwall

A small show of 13 prime cattle was forward for Dingwall and Highland Marts' sale, where bullocks and heifers averaged 206.4p and 202.6p respectively.

Bullocks sold to 210.0p for a 520kg Limousin cross from Raffin, Tore and £1194.80 for a 580kg of the same breed from Bridgend, Dingwall.

Bridgend also topped the heifers at 207.0p for a 585kg Limousin cross and £1242.30 for a 615kg Charolais cross.

Also forward were 172 prime sheep where lambs peaked at 209.1p per kg and £92 for Texel crosses from Glastullich Farm, Tain.
