Some 984 prime and cast sheep were forward for Craig Wilson’s weekly sale where trade averaged 176.7p.

The sale was topped at £90 on three occasions – for Lleyns from PA Murray, High Ersock; Texels from WA Galloway and Son, Culnoag and Suffolks from J Cannon, Clauchrie.

Top per kg was 189p paid for Beltex from Q Milroy, Kirranrae. Ewes sold to £123, £113 from Hurcombe, Garthlearie House.

Forfar

A select number forward for Lawrie and Symington’s sale of 22 prime cattle and four cows saw heifers and bullocks average 213p and 219p respectively.

Heifers sold to 234p from Nethermyres and £1342.60 for a Limousin from Pityot whilst bullocks peaked at 229p from Nethermyres and £1423.80 for a Limousin from the Gask.

Also forward were 295 prime sheep, cast ewes and rams which sold to 244.2p for Beltex lambs from Clochie and £105 twice from Templeton and Clochie, to average 185.2p.

Ewes peaked at £101 for Texels from Shandford and Hole O’Clean.

Huntly

United Auctions’ held their show and sale of prime Texel lambs on behalf of the North of Scotland Texel Club.

The champion and reserve tickets were both from Moir of Newmill of Rathen with the champion pen selling at £105 and reserve at £94.

New season lambs sold to 202p for 40kg Beltex from Parrock, Rothiemay and to £106 for 69kg Charollais from Logie Durno, Pitcaple.

Stirling (Cale)

All classes met a steady trade at Caledonian Marts’ sale of 134 cattle comprising of 71 bullocks, heifers and young bulls, and 63 OTM cattle.

Heifers were topped at 240p and £1569 for a British Blue from MI Wainwright and Sons, Todhall.

Limousins led the way in the bullocks realising 228p from DS and RC Taylor, Easter Ochtermuthill, and to £1386 from W Dandie and Sons, Learielaw.

On Tuesday, the firm sold some 1459 prime lambs, cast ewes and tups to 209p per kg for a Beltex lamb from R A Campbell and Son, Meikle Seggie, and £98 for the same breed from Doune Farms, West Lundie, to level at 167p.

Ewes averaged £83.14 peaking at £99 for a Texel from I and G Farmer, Balbedie.

Stirling UA

SOME 5462 prime sheep comprising of 2818 new season lambs and 2644 ewes and rams were forward for United Auctions' sale.

Beltex lambs from Cuiltburn topped the lambs at £105 and 232p to level at 175.28p.

Ewes sold to £120 for Texels from Over Finlarg whilst rams peaked at £101 for Suffolks from Muirpark.

Thainstone

Some 43 prime cattle were forward for Aberdeen and Northern Marts’ sale comprising of 11 bullocks, 29 heifers and three young bulls.

Bullocks averaged 181.6p and sold to 223p per kg for a 540kg Limousin from Mosside of Gight, Fyvie and £1375.35 for a 865kg Charolais cross from Mains of Ludquharn, Longside.

Limousin crosses topped the heifers at 220p from Hillocks, Whiterashes and £1500.60 from Mains of Ludquharn.

Also forward were 934 prime sheep, feeding ewes and rams where lambs sold to 195.7p for Continentals from Woolhillock, Skene and £94 for Texels from Milltown of Birness, Ellon, to level at 176p.

Longtown

Aberdeen-Angus led the way at C and D auction marts’ sale wheree trade peaked at £1196 for a bull from J and F Earnshaw, Achamore, Campbeltown whilst cows sold to 122p from Messrs McKerrow, Darlawhills, Lockerbie.

The 8438 sheep comprising 2716 prime lambs and 5722 cast ewes and rams, was topped by Beltex lambs from CJ McWhirter, Banks Farm, at 250p and £100 to average 181.6p with an SQQ of 182.2p.

Ewes averaged £73.34 with a top price of £164 for Texels from A and H McColm, Crailloch, Port William, while rams sold to £120 again for Texels from D and R Cornthwaite, Balgray Hill.

Ayr

Craig Wilson sold 136 prime and cast cattle at their weekly sale on Tuesday where trade peaked at 229p for a Charolais heifer from Girvan Mains and £1322.10 for a Limousin heifer from Auchleach.

Bullocks sold to 192p for a Charolais from High Kilbride.

The 2362 sheep comprising of 691 cast sheep and 1671 prime lambs sold the previous day saw lambs average of 174.2p.

Top price was £95 on two occasions, for a Charollais cross from JC Smith and Co, Laigh Borland, and for Suffolks from James and Engene McErlean, Macnairston. Top per kg at 190.9p were Texels from W and J McGill, Carsloe, Maybole.

Beltex from J Cousar, Howcommon topped the ewes at £97.

St Boswells

Some 48 clean cattle, 25 cast cows, 1589 lambs and 603 ewes were forward for Harrison and Hetherington's sale where a heifer from Penston sold for 235p per kg and bullocks hit 229p from Wester Ulston.

Ewes sold to £130 for Texels from Legars whilst lambs peaked at £106 for the same breed from Traprain and 201p for Beltex from Symington Mains.

Dingwall

Dingwall and Highland Marts’ sale of 26 prime cattle saw heifers and bullocks average 203.9p and 201.0p respectively.

Top prices were 216.0p for a 555kg Limousin cross and £1274.40 for a 590kg Gasconne cross both from Bridgend Farm, Dingwall.

Bullocks peaked at 220p for a 565kg Limousin cross from Ashley, North Kessock and £1314.45 for a 635kg entry from Raffin, Tore.

The 481 prime sheep saw lambs sell to 196.3p for Texel crosses from Lochdhu, Nairn and £80 for Suffolk crosses from Dunballoch, Beauly and Midbadgrinan, Culbokie.

Castle Douglas

A larger show forward for Wallets Marts' sale on Tuesday saw 1021 lambs average 172.15p with an SQQ of 173.88p.

Texel lambs topped the trade at 220.9p per kg and £99.50 per head from Mrs M MacTaggart Ball, Dunjop, Bridge of Dee.

Ewes peaked at £99.50 from the same home and for more of the same breed.

Lanark

Trade peaked at 238p for a Limousin heifer from Heatheryhall and £1470 from Brockwoodlees at Lawrie and Symington's weekly sale on Monday.

Bullocks sold to £1480 from Todhall and 214p from Castlehill.

The 2169 lambs were topped at £98 for Texels from Messrs McLean, Walesley, and to 228p per kg for Blue Texels from J Noble, Windy Gowl, to average 180p with an SQQ of 181p.

A record show of 4222 cast ewes and rams sold to £152 for Texels from A Neilson, East Brackenridge.
