Store cattle judge, Alistair McSporran, Innerleithen, found his champion and reserve winners in Limousin cross calves from Messrs Lee, Harwoodshield, at Hexham and Northern Marts' Anniversary show and sale at Hexham.

The event, which saw some 628 cattle and a large number of store sheep forward, saw the cattle supreme, a 10-month-old steer later sell for £1150 to Ian Bowe, Northallerton, while the runner-up, a similarly aged heifer, made the same money selling to Alan Redpath, Lowesby Farms, Leicestershire.

Topping the sale at £1340 was an Aberdeen-Angus cross heifer from Philip Tomlinson, Sunniside, Consett which sold to Andrew Whitwell for his Farm Shop operation at Bolster Moor Farm, Huddersfield. The male portion was topped at £1260 for a 14-month-old Charolais cross steer from Messrs Longlands, Tone Hall, Birtley.

Beltex cross lambs from P and EB Robson, Middle Horsleyhope, Durham, bagged the championship honours amongst the sheep and later sold for the top price of £107.

The judge, M Robinson, East Alwent,l found his reserve in a pen from Messrs Tailford, Rinnion Hills.
