Centre records for a Limousin bull were smashed at a society sale at Brecon Livestock Market, last weekend, when the reserve overall champion, sold for 17,000gns.

The sale which saw 26 bulls forward for sale achieve an 85% clearance, was topped by Twemlows Rebel from Shropshire breeders, WL and J A Forrester, Lodge Farm. Their October 2020-born bull is by the 17,000gns Ampertaine Jeronimo, and is out of Twemlows Oprah, a daughter of the 10,000gns Swarland Eddie. Rebel went home with G Greenow and Son of the Blaenau pedigree herd, Blaenau Mawr, Powys.

The Quick brothers from Loosebeare Manor, Devon, had a bumper day selling three bulls to average £7630. Tops here at 9000gns was the second prize, Loosebeare Regal, another by Ampertaine Jeronimo, but bred from Loosebeare Moldy, which goes back to Loosebeare Fantastic. This two-year-old goes out to work in the Rushlin herd of CJ and JC Durston, Knoll View Farm, Highbridge.

The boys also received 6800gns and 6000gns for bulls. Dearest was Loosebeare Robroy, another by Jeronimo, bred from a home-bred cow that goes back to Aghadolgan Emperor. Full brother to a 6000gns sold at Melton Mowbray in April, he caught the eye of G and D R Wigley, Rhosdyrnog, Powys.

Selling at 6000gns was the two-year-old Loosebeare Rookie, a Loosebeare Fantastic son purchased by A Thomas, Llanliggo, Powys.

The same buyer also went to 8500gns for Cowin Realdeal, a second prize November 2020-born bull from Dyfan and Carol James, Blaencowin, Carmarthenshire. A son of Wilodge LJ, out of a home-bred cow, he was placed second as a young bull in the 2021 herd competition.

Females sold to 3400gns for Ashledge Realm, a 27-month-old heifer from AG Kirton and Sons, Severn Lodge Farm, Bewdley. She is by Haltcliffe Iceman, out of Ashledge Herald and sold to Messrs Rhodri and Steffan Evans of the Sarahlou herd, Home Farm, Fishguard.

The female champion Ashledge Rachel, from the same home, made 3000gns to W Turner, Walnut Hill, West Midlands. Rachel, a similarly aged heifer, is also by Haltcliffe Iceman.
