Aberdeenshire sheep breeder, Stuart Wood had a busy day at the pedigree Dutch Texel sale at Carlisle, selling two of the top four highest priced males and buying the lead two females.
Mr Wood from Broadwater Farm, Skene, led the trade with Woodies Texels Got Ya, a shearling ram by the imported Class Act out of a Thacka-bred ewe by the same sire. He made 2500gns selling to Messrs Storey, Penrith.
The pen leader, Woodies Texels Grenade realised 2000gns selling to Messrs Alsop and East, Lichfield, Staffordshire. He is sired by Arkle Free Spirit and bred from a home-bred ewe.

On the debit side, Mr Wood bought the top two highest priced females at 900gns and 800gns. Dearest was a gimmer, by Hargill Fierce, from Steven Wigham of the Hargill flock from Park Burnfoot, Haltwhistle.
Selling at 800gns up to Aberdeenshire was the female champion, from GR and A Foy and Son's Parkside flock from Conder Green, Lancaster. She is sired by Hargill Energy.
Second top price was 2200gns paid for the blue ticket winning shearling and reserve champion from Seth Blakey, Spencers Farm, Bolton by Bowland, Clitheroe. His Spencers Farm Gaffer, a son of Turbo You Star, out of a Parkside Captain daughter, was purchased by Steven Wigham, Hargill.
Just behind, on 2000gns, Arkle Ghost, the fourth prize shearling from local breeder, George Wilkinson, Arkleby, Aspatria,was bought by J Lee and Sons, Agars Hill, Hexham. He is sired by Woodies Einstein.
The pen leader from Hargill made 1800gns selling to J and A Moralee, Hard Riding, Hexham. Hargill Gaffer is by the imported ram, Ypres.

Averages: 44 shearling rams, £949.77 (+£86.50 for seven more sold); seven gimmers, £540.00 (-£58 for four less); eight ewes, £303.18 (-£116.82 for the same number).
