A Texel shearling from J Douglas, Cambeck Hill, secured the lead price of £2400 at Penrith and District Farmers’ Mart’s show and sale of 746 breeding rams at Penrith, when selling to Scott Jefferson, Aspatria Hall.
Second top price was £2200 paid for a Texel shearling from Dan Towers, Curwen Hall, who also sold another at £2000.
Ram lambs peaked at £1000 for a Texel from G Wilkinson, Arkleby.
By the end of the day shearling averages saw Suffolks cash in at £665; Charollais at £585; Texels £755 and Beltex at £595. Ram lamb averages were led by Suffolks at £710 with Texels at £645.
