a DELIGHTED Robin Stewart was called forward for the overall in-hand championship at the Highland pony breed show at Strathallan Castle, with his wife Karen and his own home-bred Coulnacraig Jacobite.

The seven-year-old stallion is from a line of champions. He is a grandson of the stud's foundation stallion Guard of Glenmuick who was reserve in-hand at the breed show around 25 years ago. Jacobite's sire Coulnacraig Highlander was champion at the Highland in 2002.

Last year at Perth Show, Jacobite was champion ridden and in-hand and supreme at Tarlandand Duthie Park. He has been champion ridden the past two years at the NESHPES show, whilst ridden by Maggie Inglis.

Reserve was the second placed stallion Melanie Stanford's Ben Breac of Coila. Bred by Cameron Ormiston at Newtonmore, the six-year-old stallion was purchased as a yearling and has had an illustrious in-hand career. This year he was male champion at the Highland, and also champion at Royal Windsor, Cornwall, Norfolk and reserve at the Great Yorkshire.

Now broken to ride he will contest the Picton novice final at Malvern with Matthew Lawrence.

Ridden champion was Alice Page with her mother Judith's grey Trowan Monty. They won the 16-strong HOYS ridden qualifier, the open championship before being Rebecca Chalmers and Christine Stevenson's choice for the overall.

By Blair Atholl of Whitefield and out of Carse Morven, Alice has, mostly concentrated on dressage. They have qualified for the BD Scottish championships at novice and hope to move up to elementary level.

Reserve was the open reserve, Elinor Steven's Glenbanchor Somerled, ridden by Jo Jack. They were ridden champions at Fife and third at the Highland.

In the novice championship, it was Elinor's home-bred Pitmilly Isobella that was champion. The six-year-old mare is similar in apperance to Glenbanchor Somerled, and both are by the same sire – Moss-side Iain Mor. She was ridden by Sarah Jane Ross and currently is based with Fiona Laing at Strathspey Highland Pony Centre at Rothiemurchus in Aviemore where she is used a s a treking pony.

The reserve was Sarah Finlayson with Anne Mitchell's Dunedin Rachel, a six-year-old mare by the HOYS champion Dunedin Marksman and out of Rowan of Dundonnell.

In the working hunter pony section it was another Dunedin-bred pony that was champion, Chris Grant's Dunedin Fianle. The 10-year-old mare qualified for HOYS at the Three Counties Show and was first at the Great Yorkshire.

Reserve was Kirstin McMurray and Trailtrow Texa Beag, a seven-year-old mare that was champion at Neilston and Campsie and second at the Highland.
