The Percy point-to-point took place on Sunday at a bitterly cold Ratcheugh, where Jessica McKie took her tally for the season to five winners from five runners, when Crazy Diamond was the impressive winner of the NPPA Club members' race.

A late recruit to point to pointing, the 11-year-old was scoring for the third time this season. Sent off evens favourite, the Silver Patriarch gelding took up the running three out and went on to win by four lengths from the fast finishing Senor Alco with Durban Gold half a length back in third.

Jessica, who trains the winner for her mother, Tocky, is better known in the eventing world and it was in this sphere that Crazy Diamond had been plying his trade having competed twice at Blair Horse Trials and amassed 35 BE points.

Victor Thompson continued his winning ways when recording a double on the day. The first came in the restricted, when Stoney recorded his second course victory in two weeks, having won his Maiden at the West Percy. The eight-year-old went to the head three out and stayed on strongly to cross the line two lengths to the good. By Stowaway, he was bought at Doncaster last September for £10,000 from the late Dessie Hughes.

Eleven lined up in the open maiden and favourite, Whatsthestoryman, made most of the running before fading coming up the hill for the final time. Three out there were several in with a chance, but Catherine Walton produced King of the Dark with a well timed run to lead at the second last and went on to win by 2½ lengths from the fast finishing Senate Law.

The eight-year-old gelding was bought by Victor three years ago following an encouraging debut in an Irish point to point but then damaged a pedal bone and missed a whole season. He showed promise in two runs last year but had failed to complete this term - hence his starting price of 8-1.

Kate Rowntree gained compensation for her early departure at the second fence a fortnight ago, when she took the members aboard George White's, Bafana Choice.

Always up with the pace, the nine-year-old stormed up the hill to dominate and went on to win by seven lengths from Ballyvesey. Kate, used to work for George, but when he relinquished his permit and moved his horses to Chris and Susan Grant, she went with them.

And, 20-year-old, Harriett Bryce, had reason to celebrate when she rode her first winner, Damiens Dilemma, in an action-packed young horse maiden. Six lined up for the starter, but Portrait Star departed at the second fence and, when loose, carried out HMP Blue at the top of the hill.

Flaming Sparkie then fell, leaving Lady's Favourite in the lead before she ran out at the bend beside the horseboxes. This left the winner in the front with only Havana Jack for company.

Jumping the last, Damiens Dilemma won from Havana Jack, who suffered a tired fall, and went on to score by a distance from Lady's Favourite, which had rejoined the race.

Harriett works for Stuart Coltherd, whose wife, Lesley, trains the winner for Robert Miller-Bakewell, but missed his winner as he was at the rugby at Murrayfield.

A spare outside ride for Tom Hamilton proved successful, when he made it a pillar to post victory in the men's open aboard Mister Splodge. He was sitting on the 10-year-old for the first time in the paddock but jumped him off at the start and was never headed going on to win by two lengths.

Owned by Sarah Brotherton, who qualifies with the Middleton, the Minster Son gelding was bought as an unbroken three-year-old from breeder, the later Arthur Eubank.

Drew Holmes sent two runners to post in the ladies', but it was the lesser fancied of the pair, Beggars Velvet, that prevailed in the capable hands of Rachel McDonald. Soul Angel took them along in a closely packed field but coming up the hill for the final time the winner hit the front and went on to assert his authority in the home straight and win by five lengths.
