CHICAGO Outfit posted a hat-trick of victories at Hexham after landing the three-mile handicap chase on June 21 for Hawick owner/trainer, George Bewley, whose son Jonathon rode the gelding.

Raised 24lbs for his two previous course and distance successes, the 10-year-old made the running, and, after being briefly headed, drew clear in the closing stages.

"They went hard, but he kept going," said George, who also farms at Southdean. "He didn´t like it when he was headed and once back in front he didn´t want to be passed," he added.

There were no bids for What A Steel following his victory in the conditional jockeys selling hurdle race.Ridden by Hawick jockey, Craig Nichol, the 11-year-old stuck on well to take the spoils.

"He had to have time off with leg trouble, but it´s good to see him win again, explained assistant trainer Ewan Whillans, whose father, Alistair trains the gelding on the outskirts of Hawick. He won that valuable summer hurdle at Cartmel three years ago and has struggled with his mark since," he added.

"I´ve had him in my stable for about six weeks and when he came to me he was quite fit as his owner had been looking after him," said Iain.

"Another trainer Noel Wilson told me he was all right and he was not totally unfancied. The owner and some of her friends have had a bit on!"
