LUCY and Nick Alexander teamed up for their second Newcastle double this month.

Following a twin victory at the track nine days earlier, the father and daughter were again dual victors at the course on December 19.

Lucy rode Clan Chief to land the two-mile novice handicap hurdle race, before bringing home Gold Opera to head the two-mile novice handicap chase.

Clan Chief justified favouritism with a four-length success.

"He will go back over fences now," explained the Fife trainer.

"I had him in chases here and at Ayr on Monday, but this looked an ideal race," he added.

Former Irish point-to-pointer Gold Opera was posting a first success under Rules.

"He is a nice horse but he has been difficult to keep right," said Nick.

Lucy and Nick also celebrated a double at the track the previous week on December 10.

Scotland's only professional lady jockey rode evens favourite Markee Massie to head the two-and-a-half-mile handicap hurdle race, before adding the two-mile handicap hurdle race on Clan Legend.

Also completing a double at Newcastle on December 19, was Hawick jockey Craig Nichol, who rode Jonniesofa to win the novice hurdle race, and Bernadelli to a 4-1 success in the handicap chase.

"He is very tough and he seems to handle this ground well," said Alnwick trainer Rose Dobbin of her useful staying novice.

"He´ll probably go for an EBF Qualifier at Kelso next."

Bernadelli was scoring his second chase victory for Nicky Richards, who completed an across the card double, after saddling Isaacstown Lad to win the handicap hurdle race at Haydock the same afternoon.

The consistent gelding - bidding for a four-timer when falling last time out - headed a competitive contest for the enthusiast MS Borders Racing Club, spearheaded by Jedburgh-based Rhona Elliot.

"I think he´ll go for a Pertemps Qualifier somewhere along the way," said the Greystoke handler.

On a good afternoon for Scottish connections, Royal Regatta - bred at Hawick by Bruce Mactaggart - won the graduation chase at Ascot in the hands of Richard Johnson.

Carluke trainer Keith Dalgleish was successful at Newcastle on December 10, when Got the Nac was 4-1 winner of the two-mile novice chase.

The £40,000 purchase was going one better this time, having finished runner-up on his last two starts.

Hawick handler Alistair Whillans saddled Mahler and Me to a 33-1 victory in the novice hurdle race, for St Boswells owners Paul and Clare Rooney.

"He is a nice horse who had been schooling well," said the winning owner.

On a good afternoon for Scottish connections, Greenlaw-based Sandy Thomson won the two-and-a-half mile novice handicap chase with Oscar Lateen.

On the all-weather at Wolverhampton on December 11, Keith Dalgleish saddled Corton Lad to a 12-1 victory in the 1m 4f handicap.

Hawick jockey Craig Nichol rode Un Noble to victory in the handicap chase at Southwell on December 13.

St Boswells owners Paul and Clare Rooney saw their colours carried to victory by Hester Flemen in the beginners chase at Catterick on December 15.

At Towcester on December 17, Hawick jockey Callum Whillans rode 5-1 chance Waldorf Salad to win the novice chase.
