DESPITE the Scottish Borders being one of the most densely equine populated areas of Britain, it lacks an indoor competition riding venue.

Now, however, riders will have less travelling this winter as Scotland's most medalled event rider, Ian Stark and his wife, Jenny, have built an indoor riding facility at their home on the outskirts of Selkirk.

Named The Ian Stark Equestrian Centre, the plan is to involve the whole family in the business. To include local families there will be a membership scheme, ranging from family to individual membership and will offer a reduced rate for entries, lessons and hire.

* There will be an open day at The Ian Stark Equestrian Centre on Sunday, November 17 from 10am. Ian will hold a masterclass clinic and the local vaulting group will also give a demonstration.
