The roasting hot weather arrived in time for The Cabin’s three-day pre-Highland show at which a busy schedule contained a much needed 1.40m class in preparation for the following week.

Quite a few riders travelled a distance to take the chance to jump the bigger course giving praise to course designer Di Beaumont whose tracks were encouraging all weekend.

Travelling from Drem near North Berwick, Ailsa Black was one of only two riders to return a double clear in the big class securing a win on her own Indy IV.

Found for her by her uncle Jack McGeoch, Ailsa and Indy have since become part of Horse Scotland’s development squad enjoying ongoing training.

Finding from at the right time this nine-year-old grey by Quickfeuer Van Koekshoef is a former HOYS Foxhunter finalist with Ailsa and has the B+C and Young Masters finals to contest at Highland.

Declan Irvine is a regular to The Cabin where he enjoys much success. It was Mystic Independence owned by Richard Duncan who slotted into second leaving all the fences intact.

Bought a year ago this pair won their first ever outing at this venue so definitely enjoy this arena. Also qualified through to the Young Masters Declan will head off to the Highland with a team of horses qualified.

Aimee Bell may just have missed out this time to slot into third but she had laid claim to the 1.30m the previous day when she and her super faithful Cameron Poe were the only ones to leave the fences up.

Declan was once again second this time on Horation Van Ter Hulst whose owner Angie Main was also at The Cabin to watch and enjoy the weather.

Making her first trip to this venue was Falkirk based Sanda Trenchard who won four of her five classes over the three days.

Sanda bought her Scottish bred Valasay, a daughter of the Tornado stallion Hootcha Boy from friend Susan Cook as a newly broken four-year-old and they have now won over a thousand pounds and are currently in the top five in the Bronze League table.

The points they gained winning three 90cms opens and a 1m open will surely propel them further up the rankings again.

Stuart Muirhead has been training with Nadine Warwick for the last week and this has worked – his own Merrlyns Mondena scored twice in a 1.05m Open and a 1.10m.

Busy local instructor Lorraine Buchan was seen winning a British Novice with Forever Lorellen, one of a few home-bred babies she has out of her now 22-year-old mare, Lhanna, on whom she used to jump up to 1.40m classes.

Dundee’s Scott Coyle was the only other rider to score a double when he headed both the 1.05m and the Newcomers on Eros SC.
