Neogen has updated the formulation of its Synofilm post-milking teat dip to increase efficacy and deliver user benefits.

A versatile product developed for use all year round, Synofilm GL is a lactic acid and glycolic acid based post-milking teat disinfectant. The ready-to-use formulation provides teats with biocidal and barrier protection between milkings.

“Synofilm GL represents a significant advance in formulation combining a blend of effective biocides with teat conditioners and a distinctive colour for easy checking of effective dipping,” comments Jonathan Thomas-Nash product manager with Neogen.

Synofilm GL contains lactic and glycolic acid for high levels of biocidal protection. It passes EN 1656:2019 and EN 17422:2022 quantitative tests for the evaluation of bactericidal activity of chemical disinfectants and antiseptics used in the veterinary and agricultural fields. It gives 99.999% kill for the common environmental organisms implicated in teat infections including Strep. uberis, Staph.aureus and E. coli

A blend of emollients including lanolin improves teat condition which is beneficial in the recovery and prevention of cracked and chapped teats. Glycolic acid also aids in the elimination of accumulated dead skin cells on the epidermis, keeping the skin supple, hydrated and protected against infections.

The inclusion of limonene gives the dip a pleasant citrus odour.

“The new Synofilm GL is a vibrant orange colour, making it easier to confirm teats have been comprehensively dipped for optimum protection. The new colour makes it particularly suitable for use across all dairy breeds.

“Synofilm GL can play an important role as part of a mastitis control programme, protecting teats from infection between milking and maintaining healthy teat skin,” advises Mr Thomas-Nash.
