John Harvie of Auchenfin Farm, Auldhouse, near East Kilbride, has taken his passion of swimming to help his recovery after major back surgery one step further and has now taken up open water swimming to raise money for charity.
Following an exercise regime and swimming, in particular, helped him recover strength in his muscles while keeping fit during his rehabilitation.
Just over a year ago he decided to aim for a bigger challenge and pulled on a wet suit and tried open water swimming… and has never looked back.
Last year he completed the two miles distance at the Great Scottish Swim at Loch Lomond, and he also completed the six kilometres swim at Loch Lubnaig, end to end event, raising money for RSABI.
On September 8 this year, he will once again be in his wetsuit and will be tackling the tidal waters of the Firth of Forth, swimming 1.4 miles from South to North Queensferry.
All monies raised will go to RSABI, the charity which provides financial support to individuals and their families across the agricultural sector.,
John would like those who have already pledged money to keep an eye on his progress so that they can see the effort involved and so that he can raise as much as possible. For those wishing to pledge money, go to
