ALISTAIR RENNIE has worked at Nether Glenlair, Knockvennie, Castle Douglas, for 50 years – and tributes were paid to this long and continuing service at a presentation ceremony last week.
Alistair worked firstly for James Lindsay, then his son William, and when the Biggar family purchased Nether Glenlair in 1985 he was retained, taking care of 160 suckler cows and 450 breeding ewes.
Alistair received his 50 year Long Service Award at a BBQ held at Grange Farm, Haugh of Urr, attended by colleagues, family and friends. Former chairman of the RHASS Andrew Dunlop made the presentation and highlighted Alistair's dedicated stockmanship skills and his willingness to embrace change.
Also receiving a long service presentation was Craigengillan Estate in Ayr's shepherd William Welshat the Royal Highland Show on June 20 from Lord David Johnstone, head of Scottish Land and Estates. Estate colleague, Mark Gibson, was on hand to confirm that it was a memorable occasion marking a highly valued man and his input and experience has been appreciated over the years
