Following the successful return of training courses during 2021, British Wool has recently launched plans for 2022's shearing and wool handling courses.

These course have provided valuable training for more than 20 years, giving shearers – experienced and novice – the chance to gain four stages of shearing certificates. This enables UK shearers to safely and effectively shear British wool.

Training the next generation of shearers and wool handlers remained a key focus for British Wool, it said recently. Last year, more than 850 attended courses.

For this year, those booking courses can do it via British Wool’s new online system that is easier to use and navigate.

As in previous years, British Wool launched its exclusive training offer for young farmers in January providing an opportunity for YFC members who have not previously attended an accredited course to work towards a Blue Seal.

Richard Schofield, the shearing manager for British Wool, said: “We are once again delighted to be launching our shearing and wool handling courses this year.

"Supporting the training and development of the next generation of shearers and wool handlers is crucial as we continue to work in partnership with key stakeholders in supporting the UK shearing sector.”
