ADDING ABS braking to the utility side-by-side Ranger XP 1000 EPS models 'raises the bar' in this sector of the market, according to its makers, Polaris.

Making its debut in dealerships from about now, the introduction of ABS models is seen as a fitting way to extend its 2019-model range following Polaris celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Ranger's introduction in 2018.

Rodrigo Lourenco, vice-president and general manager of Polaris off-road vehicles for Europe, said: “We’re extremely proud of yet another addition to the Ranger family. The XP 1000 EPS is our most versatile product on the market and has proven to be a huge success across the globe – we want to continue that momentum into 2019 with the new ABS model.

"Adding ABS not only results in uncompromised braking performance, but also builds upon the diverse applications of the Ranger.”

Developed at Polaris' Opole facility in Poland, the benefits of having ABS include the ability to steer whilst braking to minimise the risk of skidding, as well as controlled braking on varied surfaces and improved stopping distances on tricky surfaces such as ice.

“In order to stay at the forefront of innovation, our engineers are constantly looking for ways to enhance the capabilities of our off-road vehicles, and to incorporate customer feedback into every development opportunity. The addition of ABS to our line-up is another step forward for our utility product range.”

The XP 1000 is one of the most powerful in its class, with 82hp output from the ProStar 1000 twin-cylinder, liquid-cooled petrol engine – using electronic fuel injection – as well having 61lb-ft of torque which makes the most of an impressive towing capabilities of over 1100kg. Transmission is the proven automatic PVT system with shaft drive, including on-demand switching from two to four-wheel-drive.

Offering 13 inches of ground clearance, its latest electric power steering (EPS) system gives more precise steering with a tighter turning radius.

The large front bumper and full body skid plate also provides 45% more protection than the previous models. The exterior is bolder and more aggressive, whilst the interior includes a four-inch LCD 'rider information centre'. Buyers of the 2019 models will also welcome the thicker seats for a more comfortable ride, plus several storage solutions to aid practicality.
