New grassland additions from Claas being introduced at next week's HGighland Show include the latest addition to the Rollant baler range, the 540, plus its Torion 639 wheeled loader.

The Rollant 540 is a fixed chamber round baler with better roller design and a stronger chassis than the outgoing model, plus the choice of net or film wrapping. Its redesigned baling chamber has 15 rollers and makes bales with a diameter of 1.22m and width of 1.25m, while the serrated profile of the rollers maintains optimum bale rotation even under moist conditions.

The rollers feature specially hardened 50mm stub shafts, which are bolted to the roller body and can be individually replaced if necessary. Those with the highest load get double race bearings for a longer service life.

Its tailgate closing rams are horizontally mounted, which allows higher bale pressure. For maximum density, pressure of up to 180 bar can be applied to the rams.

The baling rollers are driven from the left side of the machine and each roller has direct drive, resulting in uniform force distribution to the rollers with a lower power requirement. The rotor and main drive have 1.25-inch drive chains, and the tailgate rollers are driven with a one-inch chain.

On Roto-Cut versions, the chopping mechanism has 15 knives, with a theoretical cut length of 70 mm.

These have individual protection against foreign objects and can be swung in from the cab. Should a blockage occur, the cutting floor can be lowered from the control terminal.

The small body Torion 639 is an agile all-round machine powered by a 68hp Yanmar engine. Its infinitely variable hydrostatic drive has two drive modes – from 0 to 6 km/h, and from 0 to 20 km/h – and drivers can switch from one mode to the other at the touch of a button.

The tipping load is 3.85 tonnes and the cab and boom is positioned for maximum visibility, with the front windscreen extending laterally to the cab floor, while a rounded rear window provides the operator with an optimum view to the rear.

n Heading the line-up of Claas tractors on display will be a 205hp Axion 800 with the latest CEBIS Touchscreen control. Completing the tractor line-up at the show will be models from the small Atos range. Six models are available – three three-cylinder 200 models with power outputs of 76, 88 and 97hp and three four-cylinder 300 variants with power outputs of 88, 102 and 109hp.
