AN ag-tyre that is the first to come with a speed rating of 100km/hour (62mph) has won an award at the leading farm machinery show, Agritechnica, which takes place from November 10 to 16.

A silver medal for Innovation has been awarded to the Alliance 398 MPT tyre, which means that agricultural trucks servicing the likes of combine harvesters can work in fields, but also be safe on the road.

Alliance said the new tyre behaves as an agri-tyre in the field but with its high speed credentials delivers a safe and smooth ride while in transit.

The company believed that this new concept of transportation can eliminate additional equipment like grain carts from the transport cycle, thus reducing manpower, time and fuel consumption whilst boosting efficiency of operations.

The new tyre has an all steel radial flotation construction capable of good traction, high load capacity, high flotation and soil protection properties, but at the same time has high speed, stability, low noise and vibration, plus low heat build-up.

A game changer is its central tyre inflation system which allows swift changing from a high road pressure to low field pressure and back. Inflation pressure can be reduced to 0.8 bar in the field, and increased to 6.5 bar on the road.

Also new from the company is the Alliance 579, which is aimed at the compact tractor segment. This features an innovative radial design with robust woven belts and a new R3+ tread. The ‘+’ stands for a much deeper tread to ensure a significantly better traction than the standard version. Design changes also improve the tyre’s self-cleaning properties and offers lower compaction.

The new 579 comes in multiple sizes for mounting on front and rear axles, from 220/55R12 for the front up to 420/70R24 for the rear.
