TWO AG-SPECIFIC telehandlers have been launched into the UK by specialist manufacturers, Manitou.

Its NewAg XL range extend its offering of NewAg agricultural telehandlers and the MLT 841 and MLT 1041 both have a capacity of more than 4.1 tonnes, and a lifting height of 7.6-9.65m.

Aimed at intensive work of more than 1300 hours per year, these two will be targetted at large farms, contractors, co-operatives and agri-businesses. Sharing the same DNA as the existing NewAg models, the XLs will offer even more comfort, performance and profitability, said Manitou.

Reducing noise and vibration levels both are equipped with one of the quietest cabins on the market. Comparable to those in high-end tractors, these record levels of just 69 dBA.

Arnaud Sochas, telehandler manager for the group, said: “Our aim first and foremost is to safeguard the health of our users, while at the same time providing them with powerful, profitable machines. Thanks to excellent soundproofing, farmers can work for long hours without experiencing fatigue linked to the noise of their machine, and so remain focused on their activity."

There's also the option of a pneumatic seat, with intelligent suspension, which adapts automatically to any surface to further reduce vibrations by more than 50%.

The NewAg design theme runs through these newcomers, notable by the monobloc windshield, covered by a roof grille with tilted blades like the NewAg models. These give great visibility throughout any lifting operation.

An innovative features is the LED lighting being activated automatically every time the door is opened to light up the steps in and out of the machine, with plenty of storage space inside the cabin.

To comply with Stage V emission regulations, they are fitted with a new 141 hp engine, with a 12% torque boost, though Manitou said that fuel consumption would be reduced by 11%, compared to previous models. This extra torque should improve towing and loading performance.

It goes to the wheels via a torque converter transmission, with automatic Powershift gearbox, with hydraulic flow of 200 l/min to maintain performance throughout.

Options available include a high view camera, which allows the operator to view the inside of the trailer when loading and Active CRC boom suspension, which reduces jolting when driving with a load. Also available are Manitou innovations such as its Comfort Steering System, with variable assist steering reducing the number of steering wheel turns by 40%.

The proven intelligent hydraulics package – bucket shaker, return to load position and combined telescopic boom movements – are also part of a range of innovations for operators

Easier maintenance comes from better access, including a two-part opening of the cover, centralised greasing points, plus a rapid opening cleaning hatch in front of the radiator. To also reduce maintenance costs, the self-cleaning air pre-filter is now integrated above the engine compartment and the hydraulic oil maintenance intervals are set at 2000 hours.

Connectivity is also part of the package, with real-time monitoring of the location of the machine, its fuel consumption, and maintenance notifications sent to the dealer. Options such as Ecostop – a configurable automatic engine stop – and the automatic greasing system are also available.

Manitou has also added a new top level of finish. Platinum (superior to the Classic, Premium and Elite levels) includes just about all options as part of the package. The new range will be distributed across Manitou's global distribution network during the first quarter of 2021.
