Power and technology are joined by versatility and ease of handling in the new McCormick X5.085 – which Argo Tractors has positioned between the X4 Stage V and the future X5 Stage V range.

Being marketed as the perfect tractor for transport, front loader, barn and shed work as well as light-duty open field work.

Power comes from the 3.4-litre, four-cylinder and eight-valve FPT F34 Turbo intercooler engine with common rail electronic injection and this is 75hp, with a torque of 375 Nm at 1400 rpm. And it will do a long day's work, thanks to a new 103-litre capacity fuel tank.

This motor is Stage V approved and uses EGR, DOC and DPF technology, but dispenses with SCR and without urea (AdBlue) to hit the anti-pollution regulations.

Standard fitment is a 34-inch rear wheel for decent ground clearance, but also improved traction to make the most of its excellent weight-power ratio of 48kg/hp.

The coupling to the new M15 front loader is controlled by a new dedicated ergonomic joystick is also an excellent new feature. This loader is designed so that its frame does not reduce ground clearance or limit the steering angle range of the tractor. It also works in a smooth manner thanks to the suspension with two nitrogen-charged accumulators placed between the cylinders.

It has a Cat2 mechanically-controlled rear lifting system of 3.9 tonnes and the attachment of implements is quick and easy, as the controls are found both in the cab and on the fender. A 1.7-tonnes Cat2 front lift system is also available as an option.

The dual pump hydraulic circuit manages five hydraulic spool valves (three at the rear and two mid-mount) and the implements thanks to a pump flanged to the engine with a dedicated flow rate of 56 l/min, while 32l/min are directed to the steering system.

The four-post cab absorbs vibration thanks to four silent block suspensions, creating a protected working environment and decent sound insulation. The controls are also ergonomically arranged – a new concept joystick provides quick and easy control of transmission functions such as Hi-Lo and H-M-L, as well as the front loader with regard to automatic release, third and fourth functions.

Road safety is assisted by the IBS (integrated brake system) system, which combines the rear brakes with the front oil-cooled brakes integrated within the axle, reducing the braking distance by 50%. The brakes engage in proportion to the effort applied to the pedals, allowing absolute braking accuracy.
