ASDA'S annual steak competition at the Royal Highland Show this year showcased the supermarket giant's Extra Special Range, which only uses certified Aberdeen Angus.
All 65 initial entries to the competition were either Angus or Angus cross sirloins, matured on the bone for 21 days, from which a final six were selected.
On the day, a steak from a 19-month-old AA cross heifer entered by AM Hamilton and Son, of Milton of Ruthven, Meigle, Perthshire, was judged the winner, with Thomas B Taylor, Northolm of Grange, Pettinain, Lanark, in second place, and PS Millar, West Hillhead, Monikie, Dundee, in third.
The other finalists were BCC Taylor, of Annamuick, Stonehaven, Aberdeenshire; G and B Walker, Newton of Lewesk, Old Rayne, Insch, Aberdeenshire; and AR Bell and Son, of Burnside, Kirkton, Hawick.
