FACED with increasing problems of livestock worrying and dog fouling on farmland, NFU Scotland is currently conducting a survey to gather as many views as possible about the extent of these issues.

The intention is to use the information gathered to help form the basis of a new campaign on responsible access to the countryside.

The Scottish Farmer strongly encourages its readers and online audiences to fill out the union's survey, which is open to everyone, not just NFUS members.

The closing date is December 12. There is also the chance to win a luxury hamper for those completing the survey.

NFUS communications manager Ruth McClean said: “On an increasing basis we are hearing of issues on farmland caused by irresponsible dog owners.

“Livestock worrying and dog fouling are two growing issues for farmers and crofters and many pet owners do not understand the impact allowing their dogs to chase or worry livestock, or not picking up after them on farmland, can have.

“NFUS has launched a survey to gather as much evidence from those who have experienced either of these issues to help form the basis of a campaign about irresponsible dog ownership. They’re input is invaluable and we would encourage as many people as possible to take a few minutes to complete the survey.”
