SRUC Principal Wayne Powell is to take up three-year post with the Scottish Science Advisory Council (SSAC).
In his new role with the SSAC, Prof Powell will advise the Scottish Government on science-based strategy, policy and priorities to support economic growth, tackle inequality, and raise the quality of life in Scotland.
Prof Powell said: “I am looking forward to contributing to and supporting Scottish Government in enhancing Scotland's status as a science and innovation nation. The importance of evidence based science advice to inform and guide policy has never been greater and I will harness my extensive national and global network of contacts to support Scotland's economic strategy to improve competitiveness and tackle inequality.”
The members of the SSAC are respected senior figures drawn from across the science, business and academic communities. Prof Powell will take up the post on January 1 2019.
