Despite not having a farming background, Kerry Cartwright chose to study agriculture at SRUC’s Aberdeen campus and will graduate with a first-class honours degree.

“I chose agriculture after lambing on my uncle’s croft in my fifth year at school,” she said. “I have always loved animals and being outdoors, and this seemed to combine both of these.”

Kerry was also attracted by the flexibility of the course which gave her the option to leave with a qualification at the end of any given year.

She was a finalist for the AgriScot 2017 business skills award and the 2018 Pinnacle business awards and was also selected for an SRUC internship in her third year, working with SAC Consulting for 10 weeks during the summer last year. That experience helped her get a job as a trainee farm business consultant with Laurence Gould.
