A MEDAL found by a metal detectorist on a Scottish farm has sparked a hunt for members of the family of the man to who it was awarded.
Martin Smith found the medal on a farm between Greenock and Kilmacolm Road. It had been presented to a James Gilmour in 1889 for winning the junior section of a ploughing match held by Erskine and Inchinnan Agricultural Society.
He told The Scottish Farmer: "I would very much like to shake hands with any family members and hand the medal over to them. It is a one off and deserves to be with the family of Mr Gilmour."
