ANDREW Joret has been re-elected as chairman of the British Egg Industry Council.

The role of BEIC chairman is held by the chairman of the National Egg Marketing Association, to which Mr Joret was elected in 2012. He is also chairman of the Lion Technical Committee, which is responsible for the Lion Code of Practice.

The BEIC also re-elected other office holders at the AGM. Elwyn Griffiths, representing the British Egg Products Association, continues as BEIC deputy chairman; Duncan Priestner, representing the National Farmers’ Union, and James Baxter, representing the British Free Range Egg Producers Association, remain joint BEIC vice-chairmen. Jeffrey Vergerson, representing the British Egg Association, is the BEIC treasurer, and Mark Williams, chief executive of the British Egg Industry Council, continues as secretary.

Mr Joret said: “It’s a great honour to continue as chairman in the esteemed company of some of the industry’s most devoted servants. The industry is in good shape, sales continue to soar and everyone is eating more eggs, particularly younger people.

“Whether young or old, eggs are the perfect ingredient to fuel busy modern lifestyles, meeting demand for healthy options and popular diets such flexitarianism. The best news is that there is still room for consumption to grow even more.”
