Scotland’s tug of war team has descended on Ireland for the European championships with four days of competitive pulling ahead of them.

Fresh off the back of their win at the UK championships in August, the ladies team will be looking to retain their successful winning streak this season.

The SF spoke to team member Lauren Kennedy the night before the competition got underway and everyone appeared to be in good form.

“We are all feeling pretty chilled, we had our weigh in this morning so now that pressure is off and we have all been for a swim and are now eating banana loaf – essential preparation,” she laughed.

“Tomorrow afternoon it all begins (Thursday September 5) for the 520kg category and there are nine countries competing.”

Some of those include Switzerland, the Basque country, Sweden and Germany. The team won gold in the club 520kg competition two years ago when the championships were held in Southport, England and took silver in the 520kg closed category. This year they will be hoping to go one further and take the closed championship title.

“It is definitely possible we could win but you never know what the condition sare going ot be like,” Lauren continued. “The ground is quite soft so we will be hoping for dry weather and fingers crossed all will go to plan.”
