ALL THE General Election candidates standing in the three constituencies covering the key agricultural region of the North-east have been invited to participate in a hustings event at Thainstone Mart, Inverurie, this Friday, December 6.

In a new format for NFU Scotland hustings, the 12 candidates standing for election in Banff and Buchan, West Aberdeenshire and Kincardine, and Gordon have been invited to meet and take questions from the audience of union members.

The candidates attending the event will be invited to outline their parties' key agricultural and rural commitments, with an opportunity for attendees to put questions to the candidates on what they will do to support Scottish agriculture in the next parliament.

NFUS has published its own ten-point manifesto, issued to all parliamentary candidates last week, which calls for support from the new UK Government to ensure the right outcomes for the farming sector from any Brexit deal; do joint work on the climate emergency; recognise Scotland’s best practice in animal welfare; use the taxation system to support more opportunities within the sector; and improve the standards of food producers in the supply chain.

The hustings for North-east members only is at 2.30pm this coming Friday, in the Glen Garioch Room, Thainstone Auction Market, near Inverurie, AB51 5WU. More information from Lorna Paterson on 07786 860453.
