Scottish Crofting Federation chief executive, Patrick Krause

As you read this we are embarking upon the new year, “But Och! I backward cast my e’e, on prospects drear! An’ forward tho’ I canna see, I guess an’ fear!”

Last year was challenging in many ways but let me look forward to what I hope this year brings, to what I dream I will be saying in one year’s time:

"Well, so that was 2020. Our relationship with Europe was resolved very agreeably. We have maintained trading with our European partners and have developed new markets both at home and abroad. The great weather has given us bonus crops. Scotland is thriving! Crofting is flourishing! SCF is booming!

“I have really enjoyed this year. The job is going great, all targets met, staff all contented, board delighted. My close and extended family are all happy, healthy and harmonious. We have had a busy and exciting social life. The fantastic weather was a plus – we got in some great camping, hill walking and running. And the future is bright: ‘All shall be well, and all shall be well and all manner of thing shall be well’ as Julian of Norwich said.”

And with those lovely thoughts, all good wishes for 2020!
