Scottish Pig Producers chief executive, Andy McGowan

My first wish is the UK stays free from African Swine Fever. Our members are hopefully moving into a welcome period of sustained profitability, but this is very much down to a global shortage of pork created by the catastrophic ASF outbreak that is ravaging pig herds in more than 60 other countries. We must maintain our ability to export, which relies on staying free from ASF. Do not bring pigmeat into the UK and do not feed kitchen scraps and food waste to any pigs.

Secondly, I hope that we can continue to rebuild the position and reputation of Scottish pigmeat in our own market. The TV advertising for Specially Selected Pork this year drove significant increases in sales in those retailers that stock it but we need more companies to buy local and build resilient supply chains here.

My final wish is that the meat and livestock sector manage to get better at putting our positive message across to the general public. It is easy feel beleaguered when the attacks come from all side but we have a great product that supports the largest sector of the Scottish economy and we should all be proud of what we do.
