A SCOTLAND-WIDE tour by the Farm Advisory Service will be offering employers guidance on a range of issues from employment contacts to auto-enrolment on pensions.

The roadshow is organised by SAC Consulting and will hold meetings from Dumfries to Thurso, providing employers with a toolkit of everything they need to know about employing people for their business.

Key subjects to be covered will include; telling the difference between a self-employed contractor and an employee; updates on the right to work in the UK and changes related to Brexit; information on tax and national insurance and an overview of payroll systems and auto-enrolment on pensions.

Roadshow organiser and agricultural consultant Mhairi Dalgliesh, commented: “Taking on outside labour in the farm business is becoming an increasingly complex situation, particularly for those using ‘self-employed contractors’ who are, retrospectively, deemed to have been employees by HMRC.

“This roadshow will assist with how to tell the difference between self-employed contractors and employees to avoid farming businesses being hit with significant bills for tax and national insurance,” she explained.

The first event will take place in Perth on Tuesday, January 21 and the last event will be in Dumfries on Thursday, February 6.

All meetings will be a 7pm for 7.30pm start, apart from the one in Nairn on Wednesday, January 29, which will be held from 1-3pm.

The events are free to attend, with refreshments provided, but interested individuals are urged to book in advance.
